Rust in rear wheel

I decided to change my own tires thanks to this group.
So I remove the rear wheel and see this accumulation of rust.

What's the conventional wisdom on how to handle this?

Done that. I guess I was looking for any tips on prevention.
Anyone try any coatings? Or do I just keep cleaning it up every tire change?

Oh yeah, the bike's just over 2 years old.

Go to a West Marine Store or buy on line some "Corrosion Block". Give it a good douche' with the stuff and let set for a few minutes. Then wipe it all off. Be sure to torque the studs to specs. This leaves a fluid film on the metal parts so it will not corrode. When I've removed tires and tubes from my conventional spoked wheels I have always squirted this stuff at each spoke base and I never get the rust problem.
