Took out the countershaft bearing. I ran the chain a little tight to keep it from gouging the SM rims. Apparently it was too tight, I had run 3-4000 miles that way while commuting . I put the dirt rims on and when I went for the second long day in the hills the bearing grenaded.

So off it went to Eddie for a freshen.

Bikes are like women. What you think you want, and what you want, change after the first ride.

Dang, lesson learned! I've ran across others in the past who had their chain tight as a banjo string and didn't realize the consequences. I've also seen them too loose and bust the cases! Gotta find that sweet spot.

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there.

DRZ went Racing..

So I sold my drz-e that I kept in Colorado in August and in September I bought this one near where I live in Ohio.

My second weekend out on the bike I took it to the Baby Burr 2-Day Dual Sport in MacArthur, OH.

This ride covers 2 days and about 80 miles of the best single track you can imagine. I was too busy huffing from working the bike through the woods to get many pictures but here's a screen shot from a buddy helping me out of a hang up in a creek.

Fast forward to December and after putting about 1500 more miles on the bike and getting well aquainted I signed up for the Atlantic RallyMoto Cup (bike #136). The first race of the year was the 2012 SandBlast Rally in Cheraw, SC.
Before heading out I decided to freshen up the look of the bike and do some routine maintenance. (wheel bearings were going, oil change, valve check. I like the all white with black wheel look so I bought $45 woth of matte white and matte black automotive vinyl wrap and went to town.
Here's the finished product just before going on the trailer to head to South Cackilacky.

To get an idea for the race here's a quick video. I highly recommend everybody try this ride regardless of skill level. It is a hoot to hit back roads knowing they are free of traffic and all yours. Sideways through sweeping turns at 60-70mph is a rush!!!

Here's the after pic. The only mechanical issue I had was leaky fork seal. (my fault for sinching her down too hard on the trailer. The short seal savers may have contributes but that verdict is still out there.

Finished 13th overall an 5th in the Dakar (up to 450cc class) out of 37 total bike entries so I am really pumped!! Can't wait for the next event in August and all the trail riding in between.

I'll post some action shots as the pics of the event start coming in....

Had to do no mods with the ACERBIS handguards. Trick is to not tighten anything until everything is on.
