HWY 58 in Cali was pretty sweet. As well as the northern section of RT 1 (PCH) Amazing.

Lots of good roads mentioned here, especially:

CA Rte 36, 1, 299, Lassen NM, Lots of nice back roads in the wine country
ID Rte 12
UT Hanksville to Torrey Rte 12 I think. Most anywhere in UT actually,
Mt-Wy Beartooth Pass Chief Joseph
OR Rte 1 and the road up to Crater Lake

Not mentioned:

The road up to the top of Mt, Evans in CO. It's only about 15 miles but a great piece of work. I still have to check out Pikes Peak.

Rte 50/6 across UT NV from Delta UT to Reno. Some may find it boring, but I love the big empty. Nice camping at Great Basin NP. Nicest stretch from Austin to Ely.

I can't recall the the name of the road but it connects to 163 to Mexican Hat. It turns to gravel as it descends from a mesa, unbelievable views.

That would be the Moki Dugway - UT-261. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_State_Route_261

You are correct -it is a great road.

Problem with my top ten, is only 5% of the riders would like them for a lot of reasons

Too little traffic, so you can't practice passing
Too much shifting mostly between 2nd and 3rd
Too much stretching the neck muscles trying to twist your head like Linda Blair, to look around the hairpins
Too much tire wear, mine barley make 2k miles
Too few cops, so that expensive radar detector can't earn it living
Too many good mom and pop restaurants, hard to decide where to stop
Too much fun, most never want to go home
Too many to pick the best 10

But I will say this most of the twistiest roads in NC, VT, PA, CO and VA are still safe, there was a couple mentions of some great roads, but by my statement above most of the replies seem to be from the 95% that like big wide sweepers, and wide pavement.

One I like in gold rush area of California is Wards Ferry Rd between Sonora and Big Oak Flat, and also Old Priest Grade which runs parallel to Hwy 120 just west of Big Oak Flat. Also Cherry Lake road in the same area.

Just looked at the Colorado list. Somehow Hwy 550 is listed by three different names and they missed hwy 92.

In word no, I have been happy to give suggestions to those traveling to areas I am familiar with, but would hate to see them publicized as that brings accidents, LEO, and ridiculous low posted speed limits. Call me selfish, I deserve it.

And the best road in CO is neither, IMHO. The best, for technicality, has an obscure name of 45 1/2., and there are at least a dozen better riding roads, than those listed.

I haven't lived in CA for over 15 years and never rode motorcycles there, but I used to bicycle the Santa Cruz mountains all the time. The roads were hardly a secret from the motorcyclists, but I'm surprised those roads (Skyline, Hwy 9, Hwy 84/La Honda, etc.) haven't been mentioned more here. I would love to live in that area again with a motorcycle. Although La Honda was pretty crazy on weekends with the sportbikes.

One of the best routes I've ever been on was across northern New Mexico, US 64 from Farmington to Cimarron, with an overnight stop in Taos. Hours and hours of non-stop scenery, canyons, alpine passes, and desert landscapes. Everything but traffic!
