True, but you have to run them really wet to keep them from galling, you don't have to do anything special with mine. I also think mine looks so much better since I hate all stainless 1911.s
Plus, that older model didn't have any of the trick stuff on it stock. All Government parts, where mine is all tricked out from the factory.

Tagua Slide ... Inside or outside the pants.
Slimmest profile, used it most of the time when I had one, concealed deep, 25 bux.

Hardballer or SOFTballer???
I've never personally seen a NEW AMThardballer,
but I have loads of experience working on a few of the OLD AMT Hardballers, trying to get them to function properly. The AMT SS was so soft that it galled horribly, even with the best super duper slippery lubes available back in the day. I've owned, customised and shot IPSC with a few other SS Govt model pistols, specifically the old [ made in Seattle ] Detonics Combat Master super small pistols. I've also built about 2 dozen custom Govt type pistols using the old/discontinued Randall SS parts, either with SS slides or blue slides. The Randall SS parts were 17/4 PH, the SS frames single heat treated, and the SS slides DOUBLE heat treated. The slides were SO hard ... that I could only mill about .010" off at a time when cutting off the top rail to lighten them. The frames were SO hard ... that when I stippled the front of the pistol grip, smoke came out of the dimples. NO BS ... the Randalls and the Detonics did NOT have a problem with galling. One IPSC pistol I built from Randall parts had about 20,000 rds of IPSC Major through it, and still was tight and accurate. DAM ... that is the ONLY Govt model pistol I really regret selling since I took up the Glockenspoiel Glad to hear that the NEW AMT Hardballer is harder. The old AMTs I saw were nicely milled and dimensioned pistols, but too soft for serious work. of course, like any other opinion you get from the internet, YPMMV LAZ 1 |

Remember not a lot of parts on a 1911 are 'drop in'

I decided I'd cut them, I just don't know what I'm going to cover the exposed metal with yet.

Is that a condom?
When you run out of bullets, might as well be safe?
