Try $675.00 suggested retail! But that still beats the suggested prices for S&W stuff.

I don't doubt Ruger's quality and value, I just don't believe they are as good looking as Smith & Wessons.

A matter of taste, I suppose. I like them just fine, although a Smith is a bit more refined. Neither is ugly. I think it was in the neighborhood of $575. I had a bad case of sticker shock. Still...

1911 classic

Just found this thread and although I would love to read it all (>1300 pages!!!), I just don't have the time. So if this has been answered before, please excuse my ignorance

For political reasons I don't want to discuss, Australia has (almost) banned .45 handguns- you can only get them as collectors (not for shooting) or for the Metalic handgun silhouette. Now we are being told that there is a possibility of us getting back .45's in the 1911 classic division. There's even talk of it replacing the Modified division in IPSC.

Now I'll believe this when I see it, but it did get me all excited to the point of of starting to peruse the market, etc. And several searches on Google has not really given me any "real" information as to what is this division (i.e. which guns can we use). And my knowledge is limited to single stack, no bull-barrels, no plastic frames.

Anybody out there (especially the USA) know of this division, what's in store? I've been leaning towards a Kimber or a Para- any suggestions as to which 1911 I should be looking at?

If I matters you can get 1911s in 9mm and .38 super as well.

I was jonesing hard for one of those a few months back... As it is, my .357 costs less than I might have spent on the SP. Not to say the SP101 isn't worth the money, but I think the 22/45 I have already is a better range gun, especially for my wife.

True- I have a Bul M5 in 357 Sig that I currently use, but it's bull-barrel, plastic, fat frame. Everything it shouldn't be. We're not allowed .40's and I got the Sig because it's the only major calibre open to us. And it's a bitch of a calibre. Have a .45 hybrid I use for IHMS, but again- bull barrel, fat frame, etc. Everything it shouldn't be.

I love the .45 calibre, although the gun's a bit slow. But if everybody else are shooting the same, then there's no competitive disadvantage

A few years ago I got to play with IIRC an American 180. Looked a great deal like the top video....well the spinning drum on top was a lot like it anyway. As I remember it did not run all that well.

In the US we have, under our national organization for IPSC, five handgun divisions: Open or Unlimited, Limited, Limited 10, Production and Single Stack. I imagine that Australia and other countries have their own national organizations and rules/divisions that comply more closely with local laws and practices. I am unaware of any category called "Modified" although what you describe sounds somewhat like Single Stack Division in this country. I'd check Australia's version of the USPSA website. Our rules can be found here FWIW:

It makes you wonder how hot those barrels got. How close to damage.

Picked up a local pristine No.4 Mk. 2 today....absolutely cherry.
It's the lower one. Also in the pic are my South African stamped No.4 Mk 2 (Middle) and my No.4 Mk1/2(Top).
I also scored 350 rounds of South African Ammo in the original crate and bandoliers.

Nice, next time I am up can we shoot the old stuff
You shoot the m&p yet?

Was at the range and practicing, brought a buddy and he had his berreta, asked if I wanted to try it. Sure I say. First shot was bullseye. Lucky as hell but got a tight group with it. I should have stopped after the bullseye though
