Yea it's amazing on how different of answers you get from different people. I guess they are like motorcycles and cars, where some of the value is swayed by opinion, so there is no definitive answer. I wish I knew more about guns.

I offered the guy 800 for the pair and he countered at 925 including 250 rounds of 357 ammo (the ammo wasn't part of the deal initially). I still believe he is to high on them and he needs a decision today. I'm leaning towards passing on them.

I don't know what ammo it is, or what it costs near you, but that might make it pretty fair, or at least get you close. Ammo around here is getting scarce and expensive.

+1. Depending on the ammo, it might be a better deal than $800 for the guns alone.

+2 Seems like pretty much a wash between your offer and his offer including the ammo.

Not to mention that you don't have to run around and try to actually find ammo.

Whatever you pay they will someday be worth more.

- A new in the box Ruger Vaquero 45, single action, blued with a case hardened finish, 5.5" barrel, wood grips. Just like on their website except the grips:
http://www.ruger.com/products/vaqueroBlued/models.html
He wants $500 for it.

-The other one is a used Taurus model 680 .367 Magnum, double action, all black with Hogue rubber grips, 5.5" barrel. A couple little scratches and some holster wear on the muzzle, but no major wear or damage that I could see. Just like this one (except the grips) that sold on gunbroker for $336 today.
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...=323965186#PIC
He wants $400 for it.

I haven't shot either, but I really liked the feel of the Taurus in my hand. It just seemed to fit me well ergonomically. I didn't like the feel of the Ruger as much but I realize that could be changed with some parts.

I have asked 2 of my other friends (who are gun collectors) as well as some workers at Gander Mtn, Dick's, and some local gun shops for their opinion on the value of these guns. I received opinions of between $400 to 500 on the Ruger and $200 to $350 on the Taurus.

I offered him $800 for both but he's not taking it. Am I out of line? Are they worth what he's asking?

Book lists the Ruger at $550 in 100% condition.

I can't find a listing for a Taurus model 680. The description sounds like either a 669 or a 689. If 669 with vent rib then $235 in 98% condition, if a 689 then $230 in 98%. Those came in 4" or 6" barrels not 5.5". Did you measure at the barrel throat or the front of the frame? It should go from the barrel throat after the cylinder gap.

Again market can be different than the book depending on location and availability.

As for me Taurus is OK but I won't pay a S&W price for one.

Sorry I fat fingered it. It is a 689. I did not measure it but it looked the same length as the Ruger so it must be the 6". The owner called them both 5.5".

Thanks for all your replies.

My son and I visited Camp Perry today and ended up buying an M1 from the Civilian Marksmanship Program. He's loading up clips so we can destroy the invading hoards of empty soda bottles at the 100 yd range tomorrow. Any survivors will be run through with the bayonet.

Ammo is getting scarce in mass too.

in the last 3 weeks I have been in several times to 4 different walmarts , 3 small gun shops , and a dick's .

there is no 9mm to be had at any of them , and the gun shops are waiting for deliveries that have not shipped , even decent .22 is getting hard to come by.
forget about .223

the rumor at 2 different gun shops is that the Govt . has been buying up ammo .

hopefully we just need to give a little time to let the manufacturers to catch up on their orders .

in the mean time I'm almost affraid to shoot the ammo I have in fear of not being able to replace it .

Wow - you got a bayonet w/it too?
I recall participating in a hi-power event to qualify for my DCM rifle - bought a couple hunnert rounds, but only fired one hunnert... later on I found out they diin't like it when you did that.
I was happy to have the clips.

When I got my rifle, it was w/o anything - just the weapon itself. "International Harvester"

Very cool! I got one through the CMP program about 12 years ago. It is an extremely enjoyable rifle to shoot (probably my favorite). Just watch out for Garand Thumb.

Mine was a brand new H&R. But that was in 1980.

A bunch of fools are panic buying, making it scarce for all of us. Just trying to find a couple hundred rounds of 9mm for a days shooting is really tough even here in CO. Even the wally world that you would not even think sold ammo is all but out - they have some Serbian company 9mm

Looks like my backorder from Cabela's is going to clear quickly though, based on an e-mail I got today.

Generally speaking, I don't keep a large stock of ammo on hand, but I do like to have a couple of boxes of everything handy.
