who ever said laws have to make sense? here in UK a semi-auto shotgun cant have more than a 2 round magazine, ie must be a 3 shot, or its a firearm not a shotgun (way different licensing, lots more hoops to jump through basically, lots more ££). but who makes a semi-auto with only a 2 round mag? so some like berettas have the mag tube crimped so the spring carrier wont go in far enough for more than 2, but most, like my winchester, just have a 4" plastic slug in the mag pretending to be 2 cartridges, which takes about 10secs to take out. like it was ever a huge menace to society anyway.

Finally! After 30 years at the gun club taking chances on every gun raffle that comes along, I finally won one. Savage .243 in camo. Sure, it doesn't fit in to my expected rifles in the gun safe plan, but in the 30 seconds or so I had to decide which of the five guns sitting there to take, it looked closest to something I would actually shoot.
It isn't like the good ole days. You used to just carry the gun off if you won. I got to carry it off, right to the back office where it went back in the box, and in the pile to go back to the gun store where I can go pick it up Wednesday.

That's a nice prize. I think that was one of Jack O'Conners favorites - for Pronghorn, IIRC. I'm sure it will be fun.

I'm still pondering the 12BVSS in .308 for range use - they sure are priced attractively for their performance. At this point though, I'm going to hold off until summer at the moment and work on my handgun shooting.

Between ammo hoarding and the concurrent shortages of reloading materials, there's not even any point in buying reloading gear either. Perhaps by summer there might be a slacking off in the ammo shortages - I hope anyway.

Many shotguns (pumps and semi's) sold in the US come with 2 rnd. limiters standard because of the limits for Federal migratory birds. For those who don't shoot Federal migratory birds, you can remove the plugs and or increase the magazine capacity.

Bought this Stoeger yesterday. I sold my Savage Fox 12ga a couple years back and instantly had seller's remorse.
The guy threw in 50 rounds of slugs and 00, 000 buck. Can't find buckshot anywhere.

Nice, after a discussion in the "bear gun" thread I'm thinking a double 12 would be a nice addition.

The Savage in .243 is a great gun, as is the 12BVSS .308. I have one of the latter and it has been a great aquisition for $720. The original fluted barrel is pretty OK, but gets dirty easy. The first three shots and maybe the first six will be .1-.2 inch pattern. I replaced the fluted barrel with a $140 ER Shaw barrel and its is much more stable with changing temperature and doesn't get as dirty so fast.

Same here. Money's been tight for the last three years or so. And the friend who used to let me shoot at his place (172 acres) moved at about the same time (I hate public ranges).

So just when I started to think I could afford to get back into it, and had a new place to shoot.... BAM!

I'm sitting on about 1200 rounds of .45, 6-700 of .22, 60 .32 S&W, and maybe 100 12g plus some odds & ends for guns I no longer own. Maybe I'll splurge and shoot the .45 a little.





The only good news? The above does not count my "barn finds". I've been helping a friend deal w/ her Father's estate, cleaning out the barns. That guy had ammo everywhere in little dribs & drabs. Mostly .22 & 12g, but all sorts of stuff, some are one-round-here-five-rounds-there. I get to keep all I find in exchange for helping. Some might be collectible (old!, stuff from the '20's to 50's), some might be shot (the not-that-old .22's and 12g), some I'll keep for display.

One center-fire round has "Remington" and "22-20" marks. Looks like a ".22 Hornet". Is it?

Oh, and I found a fancy, Fancy, holster rig for twin 1911's. Still had three rounds of WWII .45 in the loops. Pretty bad shape (dry-rot), but very cool looking. Her Grandfather was General Jonathan Wainwright's aide in WWII, and there's a few Wainwright gifts (some inscribed or autographed) and former possessions in the estate. Hmmmm.

We don't get too many bears here but the seller was ready anyway. Said he moved from a high crime area and needed it for home defense. I say triple aught might be over kill but when protecting one's family its probably better to err on the side of excess.
I'm going to try it out on a car hood next weekend.
