A winny 1897.

Is $400 for a decent condition gun a good deal, or should I offer less than that?

for a decent condition, thats a pretty good price

Good shape field model with a 30" full-choke barrel, $375, I'll pick it up tonight.

Not stealing it, I don't think, but a pretty decent buy.

Is it hard (possible) to change the barrel on a non-takedown 1897?
I wouldn't mind getting a 20" barrel with a more open choke for it...

Sweet Thomspon skwidd! It looks like and evidende weapon on that table?

We used to have a Reising that didn't have a good rep in battle, but was nice shooting piece.

yep a decent buy...

my brother modified one to make it a trench gun, he had a gun shop do it.

I'm not sure but it may have to be head spaced by turning/facing the new barrel.

A guy was considering buying it from a friend of a friend several years ago, and I don't know if it ever went through.

After agreeing to sell it to me for $375, the guy sold it to someone else for $450.




Oh well. It was going to be a bit of a drive and my girlfriend was going to be mad at me.

I've found a similar lack of honourable conduct amoung Canadian gun owners. Is this just a gun owner thing or are people in general just becoming less likely to honour their word?

I've had mostly good experiences dealing with people over motorcycles and motorcycle parts.

People in general for sure.

After buying and selling on craigslist for a little while, I'm getting a little used to it.

If the there isn't cash in hand face to face - it doesn't seem to be a done deal anymore.

Oh well, this gun was in real nice shape, and I think what I want is a slightly modified trench/riot gun, so maybe sometime down the road I'll find one that is a little worse for wear and build my own, so to speak.
