The 500 is a very reliable weapon and $249.00 is a smoking price. I purchased my 870 Express from Wally World at that price, but that was a looong time ago.

the 870 was that price ($279 ?)? last month but either the Express home defense or the hunter. not with both barrels.

Got one of these a couple years ago....An awesome rifle and the first rimfire I really liked. Since then bought an American and picked up a Scout for the kids.

I have hunted with long rifles for years and found them less then challenging. When I switched to handguns my skill level needed to increase 10 fold for the challenge. My next endeavor is ultra high power slingshots for small game. I eat what I harvest (minus varmints) for the most part and look forward to the next challenge.

I was considering the Lux.

I like the 24" barrel on the Trainer plus it has a beech stock instead of the higher grade walnut. Better for me and the kids in the field.

If I was considering taking it into competition, I probably would have gone with the Lux.

The full stock Mannlicher is a beautiful piece as well.

Blacksan, get a decent wrist rocket and pony up for real hunting bands. Lead ball is heavier than steel, and doesn't rebound as readily; I find .32 caliber about right for anything bunny size.
