I have my FFL and used to actively buy and sell guns for many years. One thing I will tell you if they are just selling guns then their profit margin is not that good. Guns have the least mark-up of any item you will find at a gun store. I used to make a lot better money on accessories and miscellaneous items than I did guns. You might think that when they sell a gun for $700 then they make a nice fat profit...no so much, they probably paid 650 for it from the wholesaler. Also small businesses are eaten alive by credit card fees, it used to cost me so much for credit card fees that I ended up just working on cash or check towards the end, which probably hurt sales a little, but when the transaction fees are as high as they are for the small business you can't absorb them and make a profit, and customers don't like paying a 15% surcharge to even the playing field out (just as you complained).

I guess I can believe that... I always wonder why there is such a discrepancy between retail and MSRP on guns as well.

I'm trying to remember the quote...

However, yes. Hollywood is fascinated with them because of how they look.

I wish I could have sold things for MSRP...then I would never have stopped dealing lol.

Another thing that I didn't mention was the fact that your stock can sometimes sit on the shelf for a long time too...therefore keeping your money tied up ad nauseum. Guns aren't like a lot of other retail items where they fly off the shelves constantly (unless the dems look like they are doing well in the elections at least).

Benelli M3 Super 90. Stock with the exception of the magazine extension and the ghost ring sites.

It's got the selector switch at the forend that allows it to be semi-automatic with higher power rounds and pump for lower power rounds.

it's heavy and long, but fucking impressive.

You could throw a metric shit-ton of pellets down a hallway in seconds if necessary.

But I actually really like the guns by NEF/H&R and T/C Arms, and the NEF guns especially are really cheap. The barrels are made to be swapped around on both those companies single-shot rifles. If I picked up a used NEF for like $100 in .308 or something, could I just send it in to one of those custom barrel makers, and have them put a replacement barrel on it cambered to my specs for another $400-500 or so?
Skip, NEF makes their handi-rifle in .243 already(edit I didnt see the WSSM bit at first)...no messing around at all for what you want. My son bought one in .223 and he has done really well with it. I have shot it quite a lot and it shoots good, wouldn't worry about customizing it too much, spend the money on a good scope for it and you will be in good shape...cheap glass will ruin your day no matter how much or little you spend on the rifle.

Edit: I wouldn't put too much store in the whole WSSM concept in projectiles that small, I can see their value in replacing the 300 win mag or the 338 mag...just makes sense, why move a bolt that much when you can shorten it up. The .243 is a pretty good performer and if you look at a couple of ballistic tables you wont enough difference between the 243 WSSM and the 243 Win to justify the expense, this table shows a good favorable look at the trajectory at 300 yards, but thats 300 yards and I don't know too many people who even shoot that far to be quite frank with you... check out this link: http://www.browning.com/library/info...etail.asp?id=5

Another thing you might consider if you are hell bent on doing the WSSM is looking for a bull barreled NEF, I bet if you were to talk to a good gunsmith (and I really mean good) you might be able to ream that chamber out enough to go with the WSSM case...just be really careful you don't get some idiot who doesn't know what he is doing...as it could very well be the last mistake you make.

That's kind of what I figured too... I think sales must finally be slowing down again after midterms.

What is the barrel-length? My M2 is 18.5" and that looks similar.... The M2 weighs less than 7# empty and adding the extension to the mag only increased that by a couple of ounces. I find the balance and weight to be pretty manageable. I agree, you can throw a lot of lead in a short amount of time....

Since you are looking at bud's gun shop...did you see he also sells these? http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/61018

They are fun and you can buy a ton of 22 ammo with the money you save.
