I like the size/capacity of the pistol but the reviews I'm reading are mixed - just feeling the XD up in the stores - the complexity kinda puts me off.
And is the Small Steyr 9mm just a 'me-too'? it looks like an XD copy to me
Roughly 1500-1700 thru my XDm without a single failure.

Do a search for the "glock test" on an xd. There you shall find your answer.

The Pierce grip extension is a must if you have average to large hands. I had one jam using cheap and dirty Federal 115g range ammo, and this was after neglecting to clean it after a few consecutive range sessions over a two week period, so I was kind of asking for it. The XDsc is a pretty bulky little gun though, and though I don't carry, it seems like there are other 9mm's that would conceal better, like the Kahr or the new Sig P290 (the compact single-stack 9mm that everyone has been wanting Sig to make). For that matter, even something like a full-frame, short barrel single-stack 9mm like a Sig P200 Carry would probably carry as well as the XDsc.

For a time they were, but Freedom Arms revolvers now completely dominate IHMSA. To get that level of accuracy out of them, they're built to tolerances 4X higher than the industry standard, which means that even the tiniest amount of dirt will interfere with their functioning and render them useless. Ask me how I know.

It's called a 'squib'. Where the round doesn't have enough power to clear the barrel. The shooter continues to fire and the rounds stack up. The brass outline is the jacket for each round.

Here's a Ruger with 5.

That's gonna screw with the accuracy I bet.
