What caused you to go with Magnum Research verses Springfield or some other manufacturer? I'm guessing price had something to do with it, but I'm curious as to your reasons.

I didn't even know Magnum Research was building a 1911 pistol.

Recently I met a guy at the range with a Magnum Research 1911 - we got to talking and I ended up putting close to 100 rounds through his gun. I just really really liked it. I have friends with a number of high end 1911's so I have pretty good hands on with those and this "felt" right on par. Accurate and smooth, nice stock trigger, and fed my crap ammo with no complaints.

Now, the bloody thing is LOOOONNNNGGGG! To the point where firing from the shoulder and racking in a round is a lot of effort (I am six foot even).

I'd like to get an AR style stock for it. One that fits, and looks (lets face it, it matters) like it might actually have come that way from the factory.
You might want to look at the Knoxx Special Opps Buttstock, it's collapsible and also "shock absorbant". I fired an 870 a few weeks ago that had one and it reduced the felt recoil quite a bit I thought.

I have also heard of guys using kids sized stocks (plastic?) to shorten the reach.
I'm not sure about using "kid sized" stocks, but I just ordered a tactical 870 from AI&P Tactical with the Speed Feed 4 Buttstock. It has a 13 LOP (which is shorter than stock by 1"). It's a pretty popular polymer stock and the shorter LOP makes it a bit more manuverible and reduces overall length for close quarters or in home defense.

Check out AI&P Tactical, J.P. there is a Remmy authorized LEO armorer and he exclusively builds tactical 870s. He builds for a lot of LEO forces and SWAT teams around the country. All have the internals upgrades to the Police model internals and are Parkerized etc. And he uses Remington, Wilson Combat, Mesa, Knoxx parts. Here's a link: http://www.aiptactical.com/

Anyone know of a good company (not to expensive) and model?

Thanks in advance.

The 12 ga. and the Kimber just go together so well....
Gotta agree with you there! I'm waiting on my AI&P 870 to go with my Kimber Combat Carry.

And that is all it is to it.

The competition pistols are a whole 'nother different story ... but defense pistols have to feed with lint in the gun, and any ammo that will be used for practice.

Nessy is that storm red dot co-witnessed with your iron sights? how do you like the storm?
Also, that is a sweet flint lock, is it restricted up here?

The red dot is independent , when I take the storm to range , everyone wants to shoot it
The M/L is restricted, find one pre-1898 and it's antique, no papers req'd.

Cabela's Gun Purchase

Has anyone ever purchased a new gun at Cabela's and, if so, did an employee carry your newly purchased gun out of the store before handing you the bag containing said gun?

I got walked out at Academy in December, me, my new gun and the loaded pistol in my belt. Go figure.

Yes. Just recently. Store policy. Everybody had to do the same. They carried the gun to the front and then a person there checked it against the receipt and then escorted you to the door.

I guess it makes other people nervous to see someone walking around the store with a gun or something, or maybe they had a shooting? They do have readily available ammo on shelves.

Of course, we all know people with guns are just crazy enough to try something like that right? We are not to be trusted.
