I have the SRT on my P229 SAS and it's great. It's also a cheap upgrade.

Yeah, but she has recently affixed a big orange "T" on the rear window of her Volvo. Of course there is a fucking gator on the other side, but she's coming around.

the guy I know bead balsts first then applies and heat dries the metal. I saw a gun he did and an I Phone and they looked killer. Anything will peel off with the holsters I use but Duracoat is supposed to be the best for staying on a while. Pus, at 35 per slide, he is so cheap he can redo it frequently!

It (thermal coatings) can peel if there is any oil/grease/grime left on the material.
Of course there is nothing that is 100% wear-proof, but with a little patience and care most applications (park/coat/isonite) won't wear as much. When we do "thermal coatings" (ceramic/moly/teflon) we blast the surfaces with the prescribed media, then hit them with acetone to remove any residue. The parts are then heated to a specific temp (based on ambient temps and material) and coated while still warm. After that we heat treat them for X amount of time to guarantee absolute adhesion. Even with the so-called "ambient cure" finishes we bake them at low temps to guarantee a solid finish before allowing them to "set up" for the allocated time. Of course as Sniper pointed out, most thermal coatings are so inexpensive you can redo them as much and as often as you like. We have customers who ship their guns in a few times a year for color changes even. |
