It was fine all day, never lugged the motor (slow tight stuff ocasionally, but mainly riding between 25-45 on single track/atv 2 track, and 50-75 down gravel/fire roads). It was after the 250 miles, when I popped on the freeway home. about 35 min cruising around 75 mph is when I lost power and heard the knocking. The shop is going to drain the oil, and cut into the filter today to see if there is any brass to see if it's the crank.

What year bike is it. We've seen quite a few early year bikes have issues with rod bearings. I take a particular interest since I have a 2002

I never did sell the XRR, I should cause it's just been sitting. We recently did a 3 day ride on the big bikes, AtomicXRer was there riding red. I chose to take the 525 which worked really well for this ride, so did Atomic's XRR

I rate the XRR and the 525 RFS close to the same, HP is very similar, KTM edges out the Honda in handling and weight but it's not a huge difference. The Honda wins in reliability and less maint but the KTM isn't bad in that regard. The XRR will be cheaper to buy and maintain but the difference hasn't been significant for me. The weight difference, elec start and wide ratio 6sp were the biggest reasons for my switch plus I wanted to ride something different for awhile.

AH!!
Still a pal then
Mind, the Katoom 690 ain't a bad bike either, but reliability wise the XR hasn't got any close peers I think. Wouldn't mind a try a 520/525 sometime, or a Beta.

As per usual sterling music, and your son (I think?) is riding well. You lucky gits you, that is awesome country!

I sold the BRP a few years back and purchased a KTM 530, racked up thousands of miles on it and sold it to get another low mile 530 again :-).

I prefer long distance desert riding (links to my ride reports in my sig line) as well as single track riding. While the XRR is a awesome platform and one that can't be touched for the cost of getting into one. I personally found the KTM to feel a lot lighter on its feet, have super sweet suspension, a awesome 6 speed wide ratio gear box and it has the magic e-button .

I sold my last 530 to help fund my VW Syncro build, now that it's done I'll be returning to a 530 or 500 again.... Going to plan a return to the NV desert next summer....the wide open desert is calling me!

No comparison, Devol's are no where near as strong and well made. Not sure about the fit for your tank etc. though

Yup, call or email unabiker. They are the way to go and as mentioned, they have bigger guards for the fluidynes.

Side note, these guards really throw off Acerbis 6.6 mounting, and the lower shroud mounting. For whatever reason. Might have just been my bike or whatever. Ended up having to use longer screws for the shrouds, and HAD to use Hodaka's tanker brace to mount the big red tank. I could not mange to find a home for those lower bolts no matter how hard I tried. Once the tanker brace was fitted, things were smooth sailing.
