Gotcha. Couldn't figure what was going on.
Sure is purdy. What's your plans with it?

Well the plans keep changing but at the moment I'm thinking about using it for the odd blast off road, still keeping it road legal, and keeping on top of maintenance so it stays looking nice.

I have a second set of plastics with race decals to swap out when I need it to look brand new again. The difficulty was tracking down the race parts, now I have them so if I ever need to restore it again I can do that.

I have the sub-frame removed, getting the "Nutserts" removed and welding in some aluminium plugs with tapped holes. This should prevent my rear guard assembly from trying to fall off.
Have glass blasted sub-frame, metal insert under the tail light and side stand. Have primed and painted the metal parts, the glass bead blasting has removed the mud stains from the sub frame and all should look great once its re-installed.

Sure have, got sick of worrying about the rear guard falling off mid ride.
Have to repair the thread in the frame downtube, seems the original owner was very agricultural, ham fisted and took a liking to thread tape. I have been putting up with this also but since I'm repairing the other issue's I may as well fix it all at once.
Thinking I might drill out the threads in the drain tube and Heli-coil it, 8 x 1.25mm.

Looking forward to your pics! I have an 84 XL200R also, can't wait to see your XL250R pics too, what year is it? Pushed an 82 XL250R off the Base Exchange floor in 1982 and had it for 11 years. It was a great Honda.

I topped up my oil and went for a 20 minute ride. Came back and found this.
I checked the oil after the warm up and I'm at 80% on the dip stick. WTF?

And the Edelbrock pumper carb has hesitation when accelerating.

It appears you have a leak.

On a more serious note, did you possibly overfill?

I could have overfilled. Would it come out of that area?

I'd assume if overfilled it'd come out of whichever seal it busted first. Maybe that one was the weakest one.

I'd try draining all oil, checking gasket in that area, tightening everything back up, then adding suggested amount, and see where that gets you.
I've read more then one post about guys overfilling the XR, and having oil in the air box area. Could check there too.
Just my first thought. Might want to let some of the other more experienced 650R guys chime in too.

Nice e-start btw.
