Make sure your air filter is clean and crankcase vent hose is clear. Check countersprocket seal.

When I got it oil was at about half and I added some and was perfect. I've only ridden 100 miles since...I don't see any leaks behind the countershaft at all and my chain would probably be covered...no oil coming from anywhere. Not even a hint of white smoke only a little bit of black if I rev it real quick...doesn't make since.

If you are trully unsure of what your oil level is and are concerned about buring it, drop your oil right now and measure how much comes out. Oil is cheap compared to a rebuild . You may be over or under, but ensure your oil check routine is correct before adding any more. If I ever have a hint of doubt I drop it all, why be worried when you can reset it to where you know it should be in a matter of minutes? Just installed an oil sight line for this reason, piece of mind can be worth alot

I plan on dropping the oil tomorrow...due for an oil change anyway...I'll probably pull the valve cover also to check for rocker wear as don't know history from previous owner. Hopefully they look good...and haven't ran low on oil. If it is truly burning oil I'll guess I'll have to pull the head and check for wear on cylinder and if it looks good out some new rings and valve seals in.

Quick question...
Some how I endended up with too many bikes in my shed.....love my 2000 xrr and kdx 220 for what they are individually and have longer street/gravel covered with another bike.
So the question here is what if any could replace the xrr to take the place of both for the average dual sport and occasional single track weekend or baja style trip?
I have subscribed tothis thread for 2.5 years and its an education at the least. Now wanting to simplify a bit...can I do betteer than the xrr as a single track/adv bike?
Note.....no interest in the latest bikes and associated cost. I had a crfx 450 which was great but bitten by the xr bug traded it for the 650. Is there anything a 49 year old dude should consider in the place of the two mentioned?
Thanks

I have a FCR 39 MX off a Yz426. Thinking about slapping it on the pig. There might be a possibility that it could be too small, but would it offer any better response over the stock carb?

Should I perhaps have it bored out?

Question about coolant levels:

Does the reserve feed into the radiator or is it the other way around and how do you gauge the reserve level correctly as the level floats up after engine is running?

Drained the oil and got a little over 1.5 qts. Probably around 1.6-1.7 but I spilled some so not sure. The rockers looked great how much does this thing hold? Plus there were no metal flakes or dust in the oil or on filter! Gonna monitor the oil level really close over the next 100 miles to see how much it's burning.

Manual states 1.6 at oil change and 1.7 with filter. Their are free downloads of the manual online. Put in 1.7 Go for a nice ride, more than 10 minutes, turn off and check 15 seconds later.

Manual

Question: What are your "normal" idle speeds? I'm sitting around 1800.
