I know we're not supposed to put up Craigslist ads in Flea Market, so I'm putting up a link for someone that's got a '98 B1200 in my area for $1700. If you're interested, I can get in contact with him, maybe take it for a ride, and we could go from there.

which crashbars did you get? I have some SW motech ones that I haven't installed yet. I'd like to see the pics of your install.

Aux. lights?

Hey guys, I just bought a '01 1200S which I plan to put some bags on for touring. I haven't seen any pics of Bandits with auxillery lights from PIAA or MOtolight etc...I'm coming from the BMW world where everyone has lights on the bikes. Who's got them and where are they mounted?

Was gone all weekend, and hadn't taken any pictures yet, but will when I get home from work tomorrow, when I'm also putting on a few other new things. It said Givi on the paperwork, but I'll find the box and get the info back to you.

Actually just put those on this afternoon. They're ATV tank bags, from Amazon for $22 (15 + 7 for shipping). In the left pocket, I have two 30oz MSR fuel bottles that fit very snugly. In that one's cupholder, I have my bottle of chain lube. The other pocket holds my tire repair kit and air compressor, another perfect fit. Haven't tested them in the rain, but very happy with them so far.

Corners? What're those? We don't got dem down here.

Because of the weight I've got in them, they're pretty steady in regard to gravity. Wind pushes the bottoms up into my knees though. They have velcro straps on the bottom with a sticky part you can stick on the tank (can be seen in the Amazon picture, but I hadn't found a good spot for it, since the Bandit's tank is not normal shape. Thinking I'll glue straps onto the backs of each pocket and just run a bungie under the frame. If you want, I'll put a picture up when I get this issue solved.

Hi everybody. I'm new to this part of the forum but been around Advrider in the Thumper section for a few years.

I used to have 6 bikes but recently pared it down to 2 (KTM 640 and Husky TE610). Trouble is - they're so close in all regards I think I'll drop one and pick up a straightup streetbike again. The Bandit has always looked like a great allaround bike so it's got me looking.

Over the years I've developed a preference for lightish bikes so I'm wondering about the Bandit 600 vs the 1200. My riding will include commuting 60 miles per day (usually at 60mph) and the occasional 200 mile day at 70 mph. I'm no lightweight at 200 lbs but have no doubt the 600 could haul my ass just fine. I'm also intrigued by the idea of going back to an air-cooled engine for simplicity.

My question to the bandit owners - does the 600 have the same ergos as a 1200? I've sat on a 1200 - never ridden and the ergos seemed quite comfy for my frame. I rode an FZ6 for 50 miles or so and felt it was a bit short for me - how does the Bandit 600 compare? Is the 600 buzzier at speeds (than the 1200) as some lighter bikes like to be? And, is it as easy to find aftermarket for the 600? How much difference in weight and feel? Specs make it look like lots a changes came with the 2000 and later bikes - should that rule out a pre 2000?

Thanks in advance
Dean

The 600's and 1200's are almost identical with exception to the engines themselves. Tanks, seats, tail sections etc all swap out. This refer's to each generation 2000+ B600's are identical to 2001-2005 B1200's. The weight differences are pretty slim, like 25lbs or so, not enough to warrant buying a 600 for weight saving purposes.

Thanks guys. If it's only 25 lbs diff I see your point. Offroad that means a lot. Onroad, almost unnoticeable. For the difference in torque - looks like a 1200 it is.

I've owned both 2001 Bandit 600 and 2003 Bandit 1200 back to back.

The 600 require more shifting, 1200 you can just leave it in second gear all day cruising in the city traffic.
Both 600 and 1200 are very smooth running at highway speed, only the high frequency vibration sneak up to you, the fatigue sets in when you get off the bike and you feel like your hands are numb. I removed the barend weghts and changed the rubber grips to foam grips, that helped alot.

I test rode the FZ6 and FZ1 prior to getting the Bandits, they seem anemic at lower engine rpm, lighter weight is nice.

I bought an '01 Bandit 1200s about a month ago and am loving it. Its my first street bike. I've put 600 miles on it so far and hope to use it for some sport touring in the near future. It came with GIVI cases and looks like new with 22500 miles on it. Paid $3400 cash for it. I haven't noticed any oil-burning issues as of yet but will keep an eye on it. I did quite a bit of research before deciding on a Bandit and it looked to me like a lot of bang for the buck. Hope to post my first RR soon!

As an old desert rat who rides a Honda CR500AF, I find the power and torque fun as hell!
