all i need is 1 lower leg brake line as i'm going with taller bars (dale walker is sending me a set of his vstrom tall bars to try) and just want a use a longer lower leg up top to gain the extra length i need. eventually i'll go to braided lines when i know the lenth final legnth i need.
1250 bandit lines might work too but not sure.

also looking for a factory tool kit. my bike came w/o if anyone has a spare.

Went naked

This week I went naked. Got a headlight and flyscreen setup from an SV650. Couldn't be happier with how much better it feels.

Congrats, im in the same process but had to to wait to get a rear shock and swingarm replacement first, already waiting for the oem brackets and now debating on which model oem chrome headlight to get to make it look as awesome as possible

I got in an almost 300 mile ride today and I love the new naked feel. It was a bit chilly though....

Question Which to buy?

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and also new to the Bandit. I'm riding a 83' 550 Nighthawk and it's time to upgrade. I've been looking at the 1200 Bandits because of their value. There are three in my area that I am considering and was hoping I could have some feed back.

1. '99 Suzuki GSF 1200 Bandit S - $3500 34,000 kilometers Link

2. 2002 Suzuki Bandit 1200S - $3800 30,000 kilometers Link

3. 2007 Suzuki Bandit 1250 - $3800 70,000 kilometers Link

The 99 interests me because it comes with all the luggage, a corbin seat and doesn't have many more kms than the 2002. The 2007 scares me with how many kms but i'm not sure how these bikes age.

Any input is appreciated!

Cheers!

I would choose the first one mostly because i like mk1 better. But bandits age well and kms arent a big deal.

I dont know about pricing over there so i cant help you if they are priced right or not.

I would choose whatever looks better maintained on person and the one with less owners.

You cant go wrong on a bandit, you can go wrong on a stupid owner. If you choose the mk1 1200 try to check if the petcock leaks or not, i.e disconect the fuel hose and see if fuel comes out, thats a common problem and can give you a price lowering leverage if it needs a petcock repair.

Don't be afraid of the 1250. The milage is not an issue if it has been serviced and cared for.
Remember, it's what's inside that counts. Look at service records/receipts.

Thank you both for the insight. I'll make sure to ask for service records for which ever one I choose. Its also good to hear that the bikes age well.

Ramon, is there a particular reason you like the Mk1 better?

Regards.

Wow, so after months of trying to research it and confirming it from the company itself, I have learned Givi does make racks for Gen1 Bandits. I saw the first of those ads in cmac86's posts had Wingracks installed. Givi USA and all the information I could find online never showed that as being compatible. I called Givi multiple times and was told they only made a topcase rack for these bikes. Interestingly though, if I go on Givi Canada, side case racks and Wingracks are sold.

Now I need to figure out how I can get ahold of the side case racks. I already have the topcase rack and don't want to lose that $175 to go with a Wingrack, but may someday.

Mainly personal preference, for me the first bandits are the real bandits not the modernized crap they became

But in truth they are all good and they just got better.

There is one important thing to know though, that 2001 and 2002 bandits 1200 had an oil consumption problem that was recognized by suzuki, some have it some dont, you should take that into account when checking that 2002 because its something important.

Bandit owners - I have an 03 1200s Bandit. It's fairly stock. I'm considering bar risers, more dirt bike style bend bars, possibly lowering the pegs or thicker seat to increase leg room. If you've done any of these mods, would you give me your thoughts. Or if you are an engineering type and have an opinion.

I started a thread to discuss and should have just started it in this Bandit thread: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=784466

Thanks!

'm in the same boat with an '02. When I get time I plan to go with RoxSpeedFX adjustable risers and a bar as wide as he KLR's - Renthal Desert's or something like that. The KLR seating position & reach seemed to fit me really well but I needed (at least in my mind) the power of the B-12. Plus I'm on road 98% of the time anyway.
I was thinking about lowering the pegs but that might be going overboard & I'm getting lower into corners on he B12 than I have with any other bike! I thought about Pirelli Scorpion Trails for a while as we have a nasty gravel driveway at the bottom of a crap-yur-pants hill with a 90 degree turn to boot, but am VERY happy with the Pilot Road 3's I put on this month.

Post some pics when you beat me to it!

I'd check out the '99. Has a load of options that are pricey to do if you wanted them added. I have an '02 and I like the style a lot better - really just the front end though. I wish I had grab handles for passengers like the first gens. Visually, I really like the naked Bandits best so I'd probably lean towards the older one and strip off the front fairing and slap a round headlight on it. I'm tall and I do get buffeting / turbulence around my helmet. I've read some guys prefer laminer flows coming straight on without fairings. I had an '80 GS1100E way back and don't remember wind being a big problem for me.

Good luck!

Did you change the top triple clamp to that off an "N"? If not how did you mount the gauges? Do you have any photos of how you did this?
