i had planned on getting forks done today... but dagone it was cold today! i did get something done though. i got forks off in preparation to change seals..

but seeing as i had easy access to engine i decided to get valves adjusted..

everything up there looked like brand new! and valves were still in spec. i did adjust the intakes slightly to get em to .005 as the .005 was tight but i am sure a .004 would have fit perfect. i didn't bother grabbin a .004 gauge as i just set em to loose end of spec.

the inside of valve cover didn't even need cleaning.. just wiped off mating surfaces and put cover back on.

after installing valve cover i also finished installing front brake after rebuild and bled again and it is good to go.

getting closer....

No, the bike's long gone. I don't have any pics, but I could take some in the next few days. Cases are black, missing the chromed protection rails, say Honda on 'em, and I have the key.

Tail rack is complete, but needs some polishing up. It's the same set-up as in post #11, just black bags and not such a shiny rack.

that would be cool, the destination was branson. dad played bass in a band for 20+ years and always wanted to go there. i didn't care where we went so branson was fine by me.

we made it lil ways south/west of st.louis and stopped for night at a motel, which was a cool place... the entire office area was covered with pics of all artists that have stayed there over the years. and every room had plaques with the names of the artists that stayed in the particular room over the door and on wall. i don't remember who stayed in our room and didn't have a camera back then (round 1990). it was on a major road, a highway or state rd leading towards branson. i would like to find that place too.

we got up following morn to a monsoon that was not going away anytime soon. we watched weather channel and rain forecasted for next few days... so... we decided to turn back for home and do it another time.

we never made it back.....

Good little bike.

I had a 1980, I think it was cb400a, it looked more like the f's. My grandfather bought it for me as a leftover in 82, it was the orangish red, not blue.

I had that bike until 3 days before I turned 21, when a bus pulled out in front of me.

It was a great little bike, good for about 85 IIRC, only problem it ever gave me was the timing chain.

Typical Honda, it never failed to start, handled pretty well, rode okay, good mileage, I miss that old bike.

i been workin on it here n there gettin it more to my liking. all original parts are on a shelf and will be kept. the wiring just unplugs... nothing cut!

the rear 18 with a knob has been giving me fits with rubbing, but after removing fender and raising shocks to highest settiing seems to have fixed that. and made the trip to license branch and got it plated. was a bit of a pain... and 2 trips but is done!

getting closer.......

the 18" rear wheel just wouldn't work out so had to go back to stock 16" i did find an 80/20 in a 16" though and it should be here in a couple days. but i was able to put round 300 miles on the ol girl over the weekend. it runs much stronger than i thought it would, and is super easy to ride. and had zero problems..

had no problem keeping up with traffic either, and pulled hills easy.

the lil thing is smooth as silk too and fires instantly! think i am gonna dig it!

Glad to see you got this running. I learned to ride from an uncle of mine in the 1970s and he passed away about 10 years ago, riding right up until the end. Lately my aunt has been waxing nostalgic about how she misses riding, but she would have trouble shifting; I've been thinking about on of these for her lately, as there seems to be a few on ADV.

These are great bikes, I bought a new CM400T in '79 when I was 19. My Dad had to co-sign my loan and when we went to pick up my bike Dad saw it and asked the salesman if he had another one. 45 minutes later the two of us were heading home together on two burgundy 400s. I wish I had some pics from that day. Anyway you will enjoy, if I can find a pic I'll post it.

They are good little bikes. Neighbor lady had one back in the day with a Quicksilver fairing on it. Rode that thing from WA to ND a couple times and all over the west, plus used it for errand running when she was home. Don't recall there ever being an issue with it.

Just got my 1982 CM450A Hondamatic running, and rode it to work yesterday and today. It has about 10.5K miles, and also has a QuickSilver Vetter fairing, as well as original hard side cases!
