If you do not get it wired in time then you can still use the rechargeable battery. It will last 12 hours plus with the backlight on a third or less and about 7 hours with the backlight on full. The power button, as well as allowing you to set the backlight level, will also give you a fairly accurate reading of battery life remaining (hours:minutes)

Then re-charge with the mains charger included each night.

No problems with vibration power off on the 350 km trip I did yesterday.
(I will wire it up someday, honest)

I'm fine with Garmin using strict copy protection, but almost every other software maker allows you to transfer a license.

And software companies make money by selling new versions, they don't loose much by older versions changing hands, that just makes happy customers, not frustrated ones.

You can sell it just be sure to include the unlock code for it. If that gets lost then there is a problem. Garmin says "store unlock code in a safe place" Good advise.

So the new toy showed up this morning already. Very cool. Now I just gotta figure out what the hell to do with it. The unlock isn't working. Fist call in the morning to Garmin to figure out what the heck.

Thanks a lot Wings- you pushed me over the edge.... and since I've got a HUGE birthday coming up in a few days, I ordered myself a present from TVNAV: the 276C - 256 chip, City Select, Ram Mount etc. I'm looking forward to this thing finding me some kickass roads! Who's coming out to the RA Rally in WV this fall?! I should be able to get REALLY lost by then!

Easy- I'll have pretty color pictures to look at! Ask Poonie about the time I set out for his house and wound up doing 40 extra miles of dirt because I took the wrong exit off the highway~ Too damned stubborn to back-track when I've got this really cool all road tool to dead reckon with! I'm ready for the day when this GPS posts the following message on the screen: "WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU GOING?"

Cool. So I got the thing working. Sort of. Still having trouble with the date set which keeps going to somewhere in the distant future. The fix doesn't seem to do the trick-it does change whatever current wrong date is on there, but insists on some other futurist date when it changes. What's up with that??

My 276C was stuck on a date of 2024, despite doing a reset and reload of 2.70 firmware.

Garmin replaced the unit last week...

I got it figured out now. You have to be in simulator mode to re-set the current date/year. Working fine now.

Didja wire it up yet, Wings? Anybody got a description of a good wire to choose on the GS harness that will power down the unit when the bike is not running? Wire color, location, etc.?

Nope, and I'm not gonna touch those freaking wires unless someone shows me what the hell to do with all the pretty colors! I don't know diddley squat about electrical stuff. Now, I managed to wire my auxilary lights in myself but the GPS cable has -8- skinny little itty bitty wires coming from it that just scream "fry me". No sir, I know when to walk away and get some help. I'll swing by the dealership tomorrow and see if they can show me the cable that comes with the Navigator, I guess it's one you can wire simple-like to the back of the accessories outlet? If that's unsuccessful, I'll just have to run the GPS off battery and maybe use the car charger to plug it in for a re-charge once I get to Ouray. Hopefully I'll get the mount tomorrow, or else it'll ride in the tankbag for this trip.
