I'm thoroughly disgusted right now. But, on the bright side, I can build this bike how I want it now and I have a reason to. Unfortunately I'm out of bike money. Oh well. I wonder what's on TV......
Bad output shaft............yeah that does suck

If it makes you feel any better, the problems with my 84 that I didn't catch were:

-twisted swing arm (which explains why one of the two rear wheels was re-laced with an excel rim)
-twisted triple clamp (forks were probably from a different bike)
-poorly repaired right foot peg
-cracks in rear engine mount and air box brace (and I did ask the previous owner to remove the seat so I could look around)
-And the weird one..........a big freaking hole in the bottom of the seat pan

When the PO removed the seat, he did it carefully so I wouldn't notice the big hole I have no idea why someone would do this to the seat pan?!?

At least the output shaft was still good.

Well, I've gotten enough good deals over the years I guess I was about due for a shellacking.

Man! Where r u guys finding these deals?

I recently bought a xr400 after years on a husky te510. Love it. Bike just "sticks" to trails, traction is not a problem with the torque. Want more of it. Especially for dual sport street trips and open dez. Hope to get a decent xr600 93 or newer, but am only encountering really hammered cr*p at high prices! I notice the ads stick around for a while, meaning the owner is getting his expectations lowered...then selling. I have seen one cherry bike look like it rolled off the show room floor but could not be plated in CA. I called all the way to the top in Sacramento where it was confirmed.

These look like the ultimate durable, simple do it all bikes. Hope to get one soon.

Hey guys,
Just got a 2000 xr600 and this is about as close as I can find to a forum. I'll post some pics soon so you guys can see the sexy new thumper. Anyway, nice to meet everyone and be a new member. I already do have a question though. My rear shock is not responding to any compression adjustments. I was wondering if this would happen if there wasn't enough pressure in the nitrogen bladder?
Any ideas? Thanks guys!

Welcome to the forum 7. Just chip out a block of time and do some searching and you will find most if not ALL of your answers here. The XR6 section on Thumpertalk is a decent place to go too. Most of the same folks on both sites!

You know,
I did do a little searching on the subject and I couldn't get the exact answer I was looking for. I also couldn't find a schematic on what goes on inside the shock so I could figure it out myself. I saw someone said he put 150 psi in the bladder and then tried 250 and he felt no difference. But that doesn't tell me what would happen if there was little or no air in the bladder. That's as close as I have come. I can't tell if my shock is busted or if it just needs air...
Thanks for the welcome though! I will make sure to jump over to thumpertalk too.

oh...the 2000's

Welcome to the forum nonfatwater7.

I do not have the answer you are looking for. stick around, some one will I'm sure.

I always wish I had a 2000 since my buddy got one in 2000. But I rode it earlier this year and liked the feel and the motor of mine better...

I just don't like having a white frame and am partial to the 2000 color scheme I guess.
