I used to commute on my xr600 too when rolling the throttle and doing hard hard singeltrack I would get as low as 25mpg With a recent needle clip change I got about 8mpg back... I know get out of my stock tank 2.6 galons(its not oem but clarke) a solid 85-90miles PER TANK so Im guessing im low 40's.... it really is completely dependent or right hand throttle...not so much on conditions...or gearing... having said that 14-50 on the street make the bike suck gas like crazy cheers |

![]() The exhaust is custom made by Co-Built , a UK based outfit that sponsors the Thunderbike class of Shorttrack UK. They specialise in flat track bits'n'bobs, but are also involved in enduro's and rallies etc( www.co-built.net ) I have a set of their yokes ( triple trees to you lot ) mated to a pair of R6 forks.Standard engine currently, with a big K&N filter hiding behind that red thing . I have a full set of jets.........it's been a cast iron b!tch to get running right. Rear shock is also standard , so very boingy for current use , mated to a Co-Built lowering link The seat and tank ( is that what you mean by fairing ? ) are by another UK outfit , Red Max who do gizmo's for flat track , street track and cafe racers ( www.redmaxspeedshop.com ) Cheers |

![]() I had to post it using my photobucket account... I don't get Flickrs site.. ![]() Looks like it would be a blast. I love flat tracking. I've been on a couple clay ovals and have been known to slide any chance I get... On any surface. I do have a complete XL600R in parts. It could be a fun project... Thanks... Now my to do list just grew.

Spent some time on my XR today, wanted to check the oil pump and change the cam-chain and tensioner,
because the engine had a lot of noise when I bought it. Chain was very loose, everything else is just fine, except one strange thing: this is what my engine says ![]() Did't pull the engine head down to check on piston bore, but will do it when I decide to do a head service... ![]() putting it together in notime :)

So my friends new XR600R kinda makes a very very faint "scraping" type noise? Not sure where it's coming from on the engine. Very faint. Any ideas?

Looks like you have a XR650l cylinder. If who ever assembled your engine used the XRL piston it's the wrong one for a XR600. The XR and XRL have different wrist pin to top of piston measurments and again if you do have a XRL piston it is sitting very low in the bore and giving you a REALLY low compression ratio. Don't ask how I know this. What does the front of the cylinder look like? It might be a good time to pop the head off. Your almost there anyway.

Can anyone recommend me a good clutch kit for a hot rodded motor? Like Barnett, EBC, Kevlar, carbon, or maybe stock disks with a spring kit? Need to replace mine soon so I'm curious about the options.

Figured it out!
So once i turned around the motor mount bolt...........It all came into focus
I have a 43 rear and a new chain I'll put on right before my big trip in June. I may not even need the 43 but it couldn't hurt when trying to keep up with my riding buddys on 1200 BMW's ![]()
