lets get this thread rolling

In the interest of saving money nowadays and having parts that I cant use etc...for some reason or not here is my next question

long time ago I bought a jt48 tooth rear sprocket...I wanted to have a middle between my 50 tooth and 45 tooth rear.

Problem is they sent me a wrong model sprocket used on standard disc hubs which have a smaller circumference where the sprocket attaches to

so mu question is do you think a hogh quality machine shop would have the ability to BORE the smaller sprocket to a correct size using one of my correct sprockets as a GUIDE?

the reason I ask is I wouldnt mind using a newer chain I have as my current one is on its last legs

and please people dont say buy a whole new set of sprockets and chains...mk?

Ive been doing my chain and sprocket swaps with standard roller chains forever now and suffer NOT from any adverse wear...

not to mention trying to sell off stuff here is as hard as can be

thanks

Id be interested in a few things you are doing

1. a pic of the heat shield wrap you plan on using and how you did it, or what wrap you end up using.
2. Im interested in knowing what adapters you made used for the intake boot and or airbox boot in order to fit the quite big fcr.

lastly are you planning on dynoing the bike? do you have one near you? Id love to see what you end up with...

or maybe just an a/f measurement?

thanks

good work!
1: its just plain old glassfiber heatwrap you see used in car engine bays. and on bobbers and the likes..

2. I bought the FCR/head/etc from the person who made it to fit, as far as I can see its an STOCK intake manifold for the carb, and a silicone piece which goes around the carb on the filterbox side, this silicone piece holds a steel pipe which then inserts into the original airbox pipe..

I WILL be dynoing the bike and I'll film it. Don't expect wonders, the piston is not new, just new rings.

The old pig fired, FIRST KICK!

how about anna takes it up when she comes down with all your cam stuff?

I kind of wanted it to work out but probably not worth it...

both my 50 and 45 sprockets are still good

anyways

Hi Royal Club

Does your FCR have a metal locator tab that the manifold fits into? Same side as the choke etc ?

I'm interested to see how you get on with this , I've just bought one

What's happened to your fuel tank ? One of your mates set it on fire ?

I have one on ebay if you need one ??

Cheers

Having a bit trouble understanding the highlighted part.. Maybe you could take a picture of what you mean?

I have two fuel tanks, one ugly one, one 'o.k.' one.. (well actually they both are fugly.) but BOTH had the Oring dried out that sits between the tank and faucet (whats the proper word for the on/off/reserve thingy?)

I've been soaking the orings in gasoline since yesterday.

Oh, I think I understand what you mean, like a locator that meets with a locator on the intake manifold, to align the carburettor in the right position? Yeah I think it has that, but the manifold side has been cut away since the fcr/XR dont align.

this thingy?

That's it , yes. I tried mating mine together , and think I may grind that locator tab off with a dremel. Other than that , it appears to want to fit OK.................are you saying your inlet manifold is shorter than standard ?

Are you leaving the hot start on ? What have you done with the TPS ? I'm guessing just leave it alone ? I saw a blanking plate on ebay a couple of weeks ago , and now I can't find it

The "on/off/reserve thingy " is a fuel tap ( faucet is Merkinese for tap so same thing )

Cheers , Stu

I'm pretty sure the manifold is stock, could see the parts that were cut off.
Leaving the hotstart on it yeah, done a itty bit of reading on it and it says it helps starting big cc engines...
The TPS is just dangling. didnt do anything with it.

If you have not done it yet, I'd advice you to just buy an CRF450 (2005ish) throttle tube and cables assembly, XR cables can be made to fit, but requires a bit of effing around with one of the cables and the stroke on the throttle tube will be pretty long. I bought a crf throttletube/housing/cables as a set for just 25euros...

Oh, and while you are ebaying around, find a roll of heat wrap, the acceleratorpump housing sits pretty close to the header in the case of an 2in1 header, if you have the 2/2 header which mates IN the silencer you're gonna have a problem, you either have to rotate the carb and have it hold a strange angle (not even sure if the fueltank will fit in that situation) or you need to cut the upper header pipe and reweld it so it runs around the carb instead of hitting it.

Well the good news is , the carb came attached to the throttle cables and tube . Result ! 30 posted to the door
The bad news is that the grip on the tube is very badly worn , I may have to splash out on a new one [ sits down in darkened room hyper ventilating at the thought of such a rash move ]

Cheers , Stu
