I have a tank, seat, forks and air box off of a 1986 XR600 that I'd rather give away than throw away. Also speed-o, clutch, throttle cables. Front and rear brake hoses.

Any takers?
Steve I'll take the air box. Is the speedo rectangular? I just replaced the cables with 5 inch longer cables, Renazco seat

Appart from the original leather tool bag which is stuffed full, there`s not much
storage space on the XR! Limited by a lack of suitable places to get a bungie hook around. The subframe is also short. Cannot get a net around the 22 Acerbis either.. Looking for luggage ideas in the form of throw overs, tanks bags, panniers...welded up racks etc. One other thing. If the bike is hot it will start but if left to sit for five minutes it needs half choke. Cold start, usual procedure and fires up on 2nd kick on half choke. Any tips on semi hot start ie. sitting for more than a few minutes from hot?
About to buy a batch of Repsol 20/50 or Repsol Diesel 15/40..prices are similar. Previously have used both. Leaning towards the 20/50 for the hot Spanish Summers:-)

Make sure that the oil you use has no additives in it as these will make your clutch slip.

Here is a link to a post from a friend of mine on how he sorted out the storage space.

If you wish to know more, as he is a RKI on this, just slip him a PM.

The details,

Powder coated frame, side stand, top triple clamp and right foot peg bracket. Motor completely disassembled, bead blaster all of the cases, cylinder and head. Painted with Dupli Color Ceramic engine paint. Aluminim for the engine cases, cylinder, head and cast aluminum for the side covers and rocker cover. Slightly different shades of silver. Replaced a couple of the transmission gears, second and third, Wiseco 97.5mm 10.5cr piston, Engine Dynamics valve job, new seals. Engine Dynamics also machined and welded on new counter shaft guard mounting points as they were both broken off. Scott Summers jetting, Uni filter, Rickey Stator, stainless brake hoses front and rear, new brake pads front and rear. Bead blasted and then clear coated the fork legs, fresh oil and seals. New X ring chain and sprockets. New side plastics, front and rear fenders. Renthal Twin wall big bars, grips. New DHH head light and tail light. New wheel and steering stem bearings. Those big pegs from E-Bay. Blasted and hi temp painted header with a White Brothers pipe. Boy this thing sounds sweet.

One last thing. I need to mount the brand new California license plate!!!

Oh, It's for sale.

I have a Baja Designs dual sport wiring kit I have yet to install. That and turn indicators and a horn. I think a price of $2750.00 is fair considering all of the work involved. I think I make about $10.00 an hour doing these builds.

Great looking bike Steve. Shouldn't take long to sale with all those updates. Where did you get the stainless brake lines?

I just acquired them. I believe that they are Goodrich brand.

I never really bothered much with oil type on the XL, 20/50, 10/40, 15/40..anything that was cheap...and it worked. With the clutch slipping on the XR, I started to think of slippery additives in car oil...not knowing what the PO had used, especially as the bike is low mileage. I went through all the oils in the store and had a hell of a job finding anything that didn`t contain API: SL...literally every oil was rated SL which I understand as containing additives not suitable for our clutches. In the end I chose a 15/40 CG 4, CF 4, SJ. Changed the oil and the clutch is slipping like buggery! Dropped the oil again and will see how it fares tomorrow. A new clutch is on order but I want to find a good oil without additives without having to pay 15 euros a litre. Rant over.

Another question?. This oil seal on the clutch activation shaft was leaking anything special about replacing it at this point. Looks like I just pop a new one in.
