There isn't any practical way IMHO to make the R75 into a 3x2 except to buy a Ural and graft the motor in. These days IMHO it'd achieve roughly the same thing if you sold the BM and bought a whole Ural 750. If you want to go the first route, you need to talk to serious Ural people and get drawings to make a spacer plate. This allows the Ural gearbox to be fitted to the BM engine.

I've only used ambien twice, but I had awful nightmares about fuses and monkeys and sovietski bikes, too.

I agree 100%. Most of us should never go into a situation where we actually need 2wd to get through. I like to look at these (Ural) bikes as a 4wd Truck. Only use the 4wd when you do get stuck and use it only to back out. Remember if you get stuck in 4wd, you are screwed!! :)

I have yet to run into a stuck situation that I could not simply put the bike in reverse and back right out using 1wd. Mind you that I am not Dirt Biking my Ural, but riding back, BACK roads and trails.

Just my mindless rambling!! :) Back to regular scheduled programming.

Cheapest and probably the best way to turn an R75/6 into a sidecar drive bike, in the U.S. would be to buy an untitled "Yuri Special" MT-16 that someone else has given up on and "graft" suitable sections of the BMW frame to the MT frame, (assuming that such a process is legal in your state). Use the BMW engine, get a /2 clutch plate to adapt the MT gearbox, weld "ears" on the MT gearbox to match the BMW bolt holes and replace all the bearings. Add a difflock in the process if you want the best off-road 2WD possible. Far cheaper than a new and probably SH Patrol and has the advantage of full-time 2WD.
