@ Eddy -- re: value of the helmet, ask Jeff's wife. Her telling of her solo jump is fantastic, and my take is that a helmet is a relevant part of the story.

What I did on summer vacation

Guy's not the only one with stuff backed up. Spent the whole day doing this yesterday. Thank goodness it was cool.

Actually I just did the work requiring the brains. I dug the trench, with a pick and shovel no less. A local concrete guy and his sons did the forms, but I helped.

The building is actually a wagon shed, and that wall is suppose to be vertical and setting were the footer is going. It had kicked off the stone foundation and we are in danger of losing the whole building. Concrete comes tomorrow and it is going to be lots of wheel barrows and sweat. 1.39 cubic yards estimated.

On the plus side, it was 48F here this morning. I actually had to get an extra blanket last night, with all the windows open. Hard to believe it was hotter in March. Good sleeping weather though.

No jumping for me. I'm scared to stand on a step ladder. I see them jumping at Dinwiddie Airport all the time. Looks like fun but you won't find me doing it.

Well......
Brenda ..... I guess it's just going to be you and I making the leap. Maybe we should have tried bungee jumping first.

I'll stick to motorcycles. At least I have the "perception" of control. I'm too much of a contol freak to trust parachutes or bungee cords. I don't even ride roller coasters for that reason.
Smart man you is.

I haven't backed out of this adventure either. Just need to see what dates are being considered since I do have a few out-of-town rides coming up.

There MAY be one other female interested party, but if the word gets out to the wrong person, i.e., my wife, I'm a dead man.

From that, you can probably make an assumption who that other person might be.

I'm sure Teeter knows...................

I spoke with Teresa last night and she said she was interested in doing a tandem. But I'm certainly not.... for all the reasons previously mentioned.

Interesting email from the Director of my place of Employment today. Seeking 35 people for Voluntary Separation Agreements with a separation package of up to 25 weeks vacation ( 1 week/yr of service) and a % of paid health insurance. It would be tempting if I was 10 years older. So, if they don't get the 35 they will next go after the Term Employees, then the permanent dead wood, then...who knows...Am I better off than 4 yrs ago? Hmm....

We have an aggressive future of operating our machine at 12GeV (originally a 4 GeV machine) but they are anticipating future tighter budgets, since there is talk of going back to 2008 funding levels at Dept of Energy. We had one of these reductions in staff about 10 yrs ago and too may people asked to leave and many were denied. Not sure about nowadays though.
