RTE 08-31-12 Mr. Submarine

Mike already put up a few pix. Here are some more.

My Gyro with a bite or two taken out of one side. Too intent on eating than taking pix.

Then, there was this guy:

Impromptu flat fix on VACommuter's hack:

All of them at:
http://gbyoung2.smugmug.com/Motorcyc...5113909_PzSdPW

This was a lot of fun and there was a good turn-out. Let's try and keep it going.

Mike got to the house okay, swapped bikes, and is on his way home. Hope to hear from him in a couple of hours.

Sorry for the drama with the flat, but If I'm going to get one, in the parking lot of an excellent sammich shop with a bunch of ADVers is the place to do it. Thanks for all the help and even the not so helpful suggestions. I almost expected one of you BMW guys to pull a HF tire changer out of one pannier. Excellent food and conversation. Picked up my two wheeler from Guy and took the long slow hot way home on Route 1 due to required breakin procedures. Now Guy just has to upgrade and un-fook my hack rig. Good luck!

Shenandoah 500 registration is open now

For everyone that is interested in this event, Shenandoah 500 registration is open now - http://watr.us/. Last year it sold out in about 24 hours so if you're thinking of doing this, register as quickly as possible. It's a fun, well-run event...

I think we need a seafood run....now, I know Maine is a tad far for lunch but there has to be some around here....I've only done Croakers Spot....and the best we may find is fried catfish or crab cakes....but, what ya'll got?

Nobody said anything about Teeter's missing nut

Hmmm? I never noticed a voice change.

Seriously, I looked my collection but didn't have any. Had I ridden the KLR, could have helped him out. It uses the same chain adjustment scheme and I carry some spares with me.

I could do seafood. Unfortunately, I'm the only one in the family that likes it, so my knowledge of places around here is limited. The only place I've really eaten it (often) was at Capt. D's at the corner of Laburnum and Williamsburg Road. I thought they did a pretty good job considering it was a chain.

For me and crab cakes, I've really been spoiled by the ones I've eaten in Secretary (Suicide Bridge Restaurant), and Northeast (Woody's), MD. Those were lump crab cakes and were to die for. Beck's in Sykesville, MD ran a close second. Those illusive crabcakes are kinda wishing Maine was just up the road a few miles to put down a lobster roll.

Barring no other suggestions, tell us about Croakers Spot.

Actually, I forgot about Skilligalee. It's been awhile since I've been there. IIRC - it was good, but may be a little pricey for this crew.

Dayam. I wish Chillin' and Grillin' was still around. Among all the rest of their fare, they had an excellent Oyster Po Boy.

Not sure if it goes by the same name, but it is now run by someone named Kelso at the same location.

Croakers Spot has some Richmond history to it so I'm told....famous for a fried fish basket, grits and large portions kinda thing...Yelp rates it 4 stars and I agree but its not Mr.Submarine prices either....I'm a Yankee so me saying its good down home southern cookin' doesn't go along way but I haven't heard bad things and would certainly go back.

Back to crab cakes....I went to a SMIB RTE and we went to this place on the water that had absolutely HUGE crab cake balls if you will watch out Lobsta' roll..........

Lets play name those ADV'ers....

This dude had a salad - WTF

Sorry buddy.....what was the name of that place?

Since I worked in the area of where we were today for almost 20 years, I visited a lot of places in the area.

I mentioned this to Teeter today, just up the street is a Chinese restaurant called Hunan East. They have a lunch buffet that is to die for. I probably ate there 3-4 times a month when I worked around there.

Not seafood, but just another suggestion.

We need a name for this RTE herd. Galloping Gourmet(s) has already been taken..........

+1 Croaker Spot. Ridiculous volume of food. The platter could have fed four.
