Maybe I should start. The battery is buried under the (full) tank. Think I could plug a charger into the coax connector for my heated gear? It's wired to the battery directly and there's a fuse in-line (not sure the amperage off hand.)

It sucks driving on a beautiful day like this. Grrrr

I didn't want to walk the dog this morning much less ride. Besides spending that much time getting bundled and geared up is no fun just to go to work.

I'm jealous. If I go ride those with you in the spring, you'll have to share. Short cold days are good for playing video games or spending time with the family without feeling like I am missing good riding.

Teeter, be careful on the polarity thing. I blew up a GPS charger not paying attention to that and not realizing the colors had reversed going through a couple SAE plugs that had been installed by a PO. I was lucky it was just the GPS charger I smoked.

Yeah, I wouldn't consider it a lot of fun riding at 0500 in those temps, but it's a stress reliever for me. And right now, I have a lot of stressor's going on.

I missed very few days of commuting by bike (over 22+ years) back when I was working full time. 12-1/2 miles of temps like those here today would get your attention, but definitely worth it due to the stress-relief factor.

Forecast for International Falls, MN tonight is -42. BRRRR!!

We ain't there (thank gawd!!), but it was cold enough out there here today I passed on doing anything in the garage. I have stuff to do and I have a heat source, but with no insulation it would have been a losing proposition and a waste of good propane and $$.

We'll hit it tomorrow. I have an AR10 lower I need to get machined.

Ah man, I had totally forgotten about the Blue Ridge Trail maps! I stumbled across them a while back and after some quick searching found the thread. I will absolutely be going to ride some of it when it gets warm. If you are planning a trip make sure you post it up in here because I'm absolutely game. I'll take time off work. How many days were you thinking about riding/camping?

We camped up there Aug 1 and it got down to low 40's. Bet it is cold as a mother now.

I've camped at Dolly in the winter; not fun.

Well, it was at the time, but getting too old for that kinda stuff now.

Ahh, they don't make them like they used to. I just rode to Florida in 40 degree temps, in January, and thought I was tough. But then I remembered doing the same ride in 2004, but with a fellow BMW rider who was 81 years old. Gene, was tough, and cantankerous. Rode 700 miles to Florida in January, and pitched a tent and CAMPED on the ground. Even thru his 70's he would ride to Death Valley each year for a rally in January. Rode from Virginia! In January. I don't care which route you take, that requires balls.

I've personally been waiting for winter to return to the east coast. I'd love to do an Elephant Treffen at Laurel Fork in January. They are legendary in Germany. But it just hasn't been cold or snowy enough to try to set it up. But this week has really made me want to do it.

raised in that neighborhood. the coldest i remember as a kid was -63, and vehicles with those new fangled auto transmissions couldn't move even if they could be started.

had a paper route at age 7, but my father was supposed to drive me if it was -20 or colder at 6AM. he ended up driving me every day for 6 weeks.

it's much warmer up there now, i think they had to cancel the sled dog race for the second year due to lack of snow.

warm weather is an economic disaster for these areas, no snowmobile use, no ice fishing derbies, and so on. it costs the local businesses millions per week in lost revenue.
