While ya'll are enjoying a nice meal at K64, I just gots me edumacated.
As some of you may know, I've been working on another inmates 1979 Moto Guzzi V1000G5. The bike had some carb issues (Dellorto VHBs), amongst other things, and I've been waiting for a couple of parts for them which came in yesterday. Something had been bugging me about these carbs, primarily with the idle adjust screws and just what they did. I couldn't notice them making any difference when I did have the bike running briefly earlier, so I was curious just what the idle adjust screws did. I know how they work on other carbs, but at first glance I didn't notice any ramp on the side of the slides (like on cable actuated Mikuni slides) for the tapered and of the screws to work on. Finally figured that out. There is a ramp, but it is recessed in a pocket of the slide. I'm not so sure these weren't put in backwards since they will go either way. In backwards, the screws have no effect on slide height what-so-ever. In the process of sorting that out, I found something even more interesting. When sourcing out parts, tI found that these carbs have accelerator pumps (as per the fiche). These are an integral part of the main jet holders - but I couldn't figure out how they actually worked since there is no obvious means of activation. Mystery solved. ![]() With the slide installed, the end of the needle hits the top of the pump's spring-loaded plunger and causes it to depress, i.e., pushes it down. The spring on top of the slide keeps the slide depressed down at idle. When you actuate the throttle, the cable raises the slide up releasing pressure on the pump's plunger and allows it to move up to inject a shot of fuel into the venturi and intake air stream. Pretty fooking ingenious. Learn something new every day. I've already sent an email to the owner telling him of this revelation. ![]() .

I will ride the TCAT across Canada, the summer of 2015. If you are experienced, of good humor and wish to go, let me know. We have time to plan.

Mobil One ON SALE
For any of you guys using the spendy Mobil One motor oils in your bikes, Advanced Auto Parts has them on sale for $8.99 per quart. I just wiped out the Ashland stores' seven bottles of Racing 4T 10W-40 and saved myself $14.00. I went in to get some windshield washer fluid and figured it was about time to change the oil in the ole' DR and got lucky.

Good luck getting something at the show. My buddy went to the last one but didn't get there very early. He was waiting for 3 hours in the purchase line and only made it about halfway through before giving up. I wonder if it will be any less busy today.
I'd encourage anyone who wants a firearm to grab em up while they can. Guns in the hands of honest americans are the last line of defense against a tyrannical government, and it looks to me like we're headed down that road one small step at a time. Wish I could have made it to have lunch with you all. |

Guns are worthless if there's no ammo around. Prices for ammo per case have doubled and the shelves are bare both locally and online. I did find a source (and ordered 4k) for reloading bullets/primers and will share that source via pm if anyone is interested.

Couple of pics on this cold day. Six inmates, four riders. Two manly enough to not have electrics. Visit to Velocity afterwards. Good RTE!

Ditto the name of Richmond VA Chatter. Here of late, Richmond VA Dirt Riders Chatter might be more appropriate. Just a snide remark because this has been bugging me. .

I usually camp in The Meadow across the street, but always called the owner, Eleanor Mailloux (since deceased) and asked permission. Never refused, but recommend calling the Hutte and ask JIC. . .

Not to your standards, no. It's pretty clean right now. All but the hard to get to stuff anyway. The chain, oil and filters are the only things I really keep clean on that bike. I get it as dirty as I can every chance I get so I don't see the point in detailing it. Besides, it is so scuffed up all over that it can't sparkle like yours. I could spend 12 hours detailing it and park it next to yours and be very disappointed! I was thinking of putting all new white plastics on it to fix the blue/white mess the IMS tank created but I decided to spend the money elsewhere for now. I hope putting knobbier tires on the Tiger does not lead it to a similar fate.
