4H State Championships were this weekend, and we had a blast. Unfortunately, no pics since my camera went missing.

My son came out pretty good overall:

Bronze medals:
Archery, compound bow
Air Pistol silhouette
Skeet
Trap

Silver medals:
Muzzleloading Rifle, traditional - open sights
Smallbore Rifle Silhouette, Sporter division, scoped rifles

Gold medal:
Senaca Run - Knife throwing, Hatchet throwing, flint & steel fire making, Archery (long-bow), Traditional Black Powder Rifle (open sights).

Team Awards:
Skeet: Junior Division Third place
Smallbore Rifle Silhouette Junior Division Second Place

Individual Overall:
Traditional Muzzleloading Rifle - open sights - Second Place

It was a great weekend with my son, and my father in law - along with the rest of the team and hundreds of kids and parents from all across the Commonwealth.

This is a great country!

Maybe now that this state championship is behind us, I can squeeze in a few rides between work and goose hunts!

So the ride was on and I met the herd at Gum Springs. 6 of us slabbed it to H'burg Sheetz where we met number 7.

From there we headed out on a loop via Rte 33 out through Germany valley
I had to stopped for a couple of shots.

Seneca Rocks, Elkins and back to Monterey via Rte 250.

2 of the guys made it a day trip and headed back to Richmond so we used that as an excuse to escort them back to the "Confereate Breastworks" on Rte 250. I took the opportunity to ride ahead and enjoy the prime road conditions on Rte 250 with NO TRAFFIC!!!! So I could snap a few shots as they arrived.

A local demonstrating proper corner carving technique.

The escort John & Bill

The day ride guys headed back for Williamsburg. Sorry, can't remember all the names:

Looking down on the way back to Monterey:

More cocktails and conversation at the Montvalle after dinner and Sam Adams at the Highland Inn.

The next morning John had an emergency call from the wife and headed home at 7:30 a.m. The loose plan was to ride Blue Grass Valley and then Rte 39 towards home. But after a great breakfast at Highs, which was packed, everybody but me got the itch to head back for home via slab and forego the days ride into WV and Rte 39.

I took a liesurely ride down the length of Bluegrass Valley to Rte 84. Once I got there the skys started looking ominus so I reluctantly headed back towards Monterey. Here's some shots of Bluegrass Valley.

Jimmie's favorite Bluegrass shots

More Bluegrass pictures.

Note overcast skies to the south.

Somewhere along here I lost my pre$$$$cription sunglasses. Spent an hour and a half back tracking 5 miles looking for them to no avail .

At Rte 84 (1:00 p.m.) the skies were looking like the forecast of 60% showers after 2:00 p.m were going to happen. So, I hightailed it back via Rtes 84E, 220N, 250E, 262S, I-64E, 814E by lake Sherando, BRP south, 56E, Roseland Road, 29N, Oak Ridge Rd, 56E, 60E, 13E with next to No Traffic and home by 4:30 p.m. All in all a great ride!!! I like this Friday hookie concept.

Hey Madstrom, what are you doing to make the cool panoramic photos? Is it a camera function, software or voodoo?

I just retired my hp R707 which had Arc Soft to do this. I bought a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H55 with "Sweep Panorama". Just set the function hold the button down and sweep the shot you want. 14.1 mega pixel, 25 mm wiiide angle lens, 10 optical, 3" LCD screen, fits in my shirt pocket. I'm still learing how to use it. It has LOTS of features.

Madstrom,

Great shots of the BG Valley! Thanks for thinking of me. I really love the area, and have good memories of the church there. As you may remember, that was my Mom's husbands first "charge" for the UMC. I think they suck the pastors in by giving them such a beautiful place, and then throw them to the wolves.

I was taking a sabbatical from motorcycle ownership while they were pastoring there, so I never got to ride when visiting them. I really need to make the trip, just to ride and think. There's a wonderful dirt road up "devils back" that's barely navigable via 4WD truck. I'd love to take the KLR up there.

Hope to see you around soon. I've come by your house a couple of times, but you're never home!

BTW... how long did you have to wait for the cruisers to catch up to you?

Ride

MADSTROM..... great photos! I was really trying to make that one but I couldn't get back to Richmond Thursday night until after midnight. The ride up I-95 to Morton's with Bloochdog was fun but I'm sorry I missed the long haul over to WV. Maybe next time. The good news is I picked up some new brake pads and oil for the GS. I will be ready to go next weekend. Until then back to Atlanta, Denver and PIT today.

Anyone going over to the Twin Valley Riders Rally next weekend in SW VA?

Hey Guys,

I followed some of the local adventures while I was away this summer. Sad to see PeeWee's is closing, I enjoyed that ride to Scottsville. I headed South and West out of Midlo last week and passed through Blackstone for the 1st time. I had lunch at Mtichchels and the BBQ was really good and the fried chicken on the Buffet looked good too! lots of Army guys there that day all seeming to like the food.

Getting ready for fall riding and it seems that my boys have out grown the TTR 125 (now 150 big bore) I'd like to sell it and several of you have boys that have riddn' it and know the bike. PM me if anyone is interested. I hope I haven't broken any rules buy mentioning the bike for sale.

Hope to see some of you for a ride this fall.

Rob
