Still kicking myself in the arse for not buying a '64 172E that was for sale at the small grass field I was flying out of when I was in Chesapeake. Mid-time engine, new Imron paint, basic Genave avionics for a paltry $9200. Was ready to sign the papers when my company was sold and I wasn't sure what the future would bring. Everything worked out for the best, but damn, I really wanted that plane.

McMaster did have it, and a couple of lengths are on order. Really wanted to try and deal locally, but no one had what I really wanted.

McMaster Carr is amazing. I could order bolts right now and have them delivered tomorrow afternoon from New Jersey! Dunno how they do it! That's with regular shipping

MSC is the same way with regard to getting stuff to your door, but you also pay for that service.

I got mine off eBay. They are VVME. They were recommended by others here. I've put 20k on them and no issues yet. They are bright as heck too.

Hey you pilots out there...

Do y'all remember the student pilot who made an emergency landing on 288 before it opened?

That was my sister-in-law's husband. He got flying lessons for his 40th birthday. In spite of the "come to Jesus moment", he went on to get his commercial license and is now an owner in a local airline and flies for Baptist Flight Missions.

I wanted flying lessons for my 40th birthday. Since I quit my job and moved, all we could afford was a rubber band airplane and the directions that came with it. I hot rodded it by putting on a big rubber band and immediately crashed it into the house.

No, I really don't remember hearing about that.... but I did hear about a fella landing a 172 on an unpaved section of Rte. 17 right at the NC line back when they were making it a 4-lane. Seems he worked for a Cat dealer in the Tidewater area and was returning to install a blade leveler servo control box he'd repaired for a motor-grader that had crapped out. Road worked was stopped until the box was repaired and reinstalled.

Not me.

I've been down with bronchitis all week, and have a meeting in NoVA tomorrow.

If I don't shoot sporting clays on Saturday, I may ride some. Can't do much though. I need to start tearing down the motor on my 55 Chevy.

They are H7 5000k slim ballast.

I also bought some real nice ballast brackets made just for the GS from bestrest but it appears they don't sell them any more or at least they aren't on the website anymore.

FYI - I always carry a regular spare bulb. That chinese electial stuff worries me.
