Just got back in from a nice six hour ride. Greg and I rode up Rt 6 past Scottsville to Nellysford and made a rt on 151. We stopped for a snack at the abandoned gas station/restaurant at the intersection of 250 and the BRP. Greg jetted off to a family function and I meandered down to Sherando (a tiny bit of gravel on 130) and then east over the mountain to Wintergreen (I tried to sneak in the back way to Wintergreen but the road was blocked) and then worked my way back home.

I keep telling my wife that we NEED a small place with a garage in Nelson County!

Tempting to not follow doctor's orders when my knee doesn't hurt as much but being good in that regard and just doing some gravel. Found Pine Tree and Extol Roads back in there yesterday, a few puddles and ruts but no mud.

Also, not sure if you noticed or not but there is a road just after the CC Road called 'Middle Rd' looks to be open-gated and did not see any no trespassing signage.

Thanks all for the council.
Consider it as possible barter stock for another opportunity........If the stock is in good shape consider turning it at a gun show.

Some nature...

This group of diving birds were making alot of noise and would disappear every couple of minutes....

Well now I'm hungry...spotted this place while crossing the bridge

The view from the restaurant...

No food pics because I was using my xmas present lens, a Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens and I would have to
be across the restaurant to use it for food porn...I had Oyster Stew that was loaded and a crab cake sandwich.
Clicked off 203 miles and travelled 75% new to me side roads. I did catch billsburgGS on the bridge in West Point....
he made a bee-line for Hardee's....great day for me...

Va Beach Fishing

Hey Guys...
Anyone interested in fishing this week? My brother has a 35' Viking fishing boat at Rudy's Inlet in Va Beach. Two days ago they landed a 220 lb blue fin Tuna. Today they got several over 50 lbs. He keeps calling me to go out. They only have to go out a couple miles so its really not that far off shore. There is heat and the boat is inclosed. Ask Eddy about the boat. It is not a commercial fishing boat .... just help cover costs.

I would dearly love to, and will someday if the opportunity comes again. But I seriously hammered my back over Christmas trying to put a scraper on my tractor. Fighting a 100+ lb fish would not be good for my recovery..... Wish I could go. Good luck Eddy!

Fishing

Hey Eddy
We are planning on going out tomorrow. Blue Fin Tuna early in the am or late in the afternoon. Rockfish during the day. Let me know if you can make it. Should be less than $50 a person.

More thanks to PBG's A-team

A friend's bike wouldn't start. Naturally, I referred her to the boys at the Classic Bike Pool Hall & Garage. Problem: blown head gasket. Not only are they going to teach her how to perform the surgery when parts arrive, but we both received marked-up photos indicating location/cause of failure as well as discussion re: same. Awesomeness (not the head gasket of course, but the effort going into the group-teach).

Really? Bad idea; Blue Fin is now close to extinction...

Nearing Extinction - The species in the greatest danger of slipping into extinction is the western North Atlantic population (stock) of bluefin tuna. Thanks to 4 decades of overfishing, it has been driven to just 3% of its 1960 or pre-longlining abundance - a decline of 97%

Eppa, I agree that the levels of blue fin is dismal when compared to the 1960 levels but don't blame the sport fisherman, who is occasionally lucky enough to get one while hunting yellowfin, swords and other sportfish. I don't know of anybody (except poachers and the Japanese) that go out exclusively, and illegally, hunting for blue fin.
BUT the great news is that the level of blue fin is actually on the rise in the Western Atlantic (up to 29% of 1960 levels from 21% in 2003), up in the eastern Atlantic (up from 25% to 57% due to commercial fishing bans and long line "weak hooks" that catch the smaller yellows but the adult blue fins can break free from). They are up in the Mediterranean as well.
