Shallow as it may seem, about 2 times the market was the biggest reason.

Randalls were more fun before they started going for stupid money and 4 year waiting times

The 7 is indeed a workhorse! And what a great groomsman's gift!

Nothing wrong with making money on a knife or gun sale says I. Anytime I get that chance I take it unless the knife means more to me than money like it was a gift or something. luckily, and unluckily, no one gives me knives so basically every knife I have is for sale at twice market value!

It paid for a S&W 27, a rick mayer saddle and a turbo city windshield with madstad bracket and I had enough left over to take the wife out to eat a good steak. They wanted to buy it a lot worse than I wanted to keep it.

Last time I saw a Randall for a good price was about 20 years ago. I do see them selling from time to time on SMKWs TV show for well over 1000.00 or twice that.

It was a Randall Knife Society knife, they ceased to be when Rhett Stedham passed away so that may have lead to higher prices. I used to buy a Randall when I had spare change but they were usually a 2 year wait, once you get into waiting 4 and 5 years it makes no sense to me. I have one left that my wife bought me, I dont get rid of gifts, but a knife with no history isnt that important.

I had such a thing for the Gerber MKII when I was younger. Plain edge, not serrated, thank you very much.

Oh, and I completely agree with you about Gerber. They used to be a premium brand, and now they've traded higher quality that wasn't priced for everyone into making cheap junk that anyone can afford. I remember how disappointed I was with the last Gerber product I bought about 10 years ago, and I'll not buy another.

I still carry a couple of Gerber folding sportsmans pretty rugular as well as one of the old imported Gerber Sakai folders. All high quality, the imported Sakai is every bit the knife the sportsmen were

It has been years since I carried my Folding Sportsman, not that it wasn't/isn't worthy, I just kinda started keeping it for 'dress' occasions. Back in the 70's I was never without it, a close friend and co-worker had one as well. He'd pretend to do a magic trick, put his knife in his pocket and announce that it would now appear in my pocket, knowing that mine would be there. He fooled a number of people who had never seen one nice knife much less two at the same time. He had the trailing point and mine was a drop but hardly anyone noticed until we put them side by side.
