I don't have much use for autos either. The "gadget factor" is cool but, as you say, there is nothing particularly quick about them and not worth the hassle (prohibited).

[QUOTE=Motomantra;20386486]I seem to be on a loosing streak. Loosing daily carry knives. I have some nice knives, but can't justify an expensive daily. Can you guys recommend something under maybe $40, preferably with a clip, with a blade around 3".

I'm on my second 5.11. First one fell out of a pocket somewhere at work. Cheap enough that I really don't care.

The videos of John's work are about as good as the work itself. Nothing terribly special about the damascus, it's well-executed and clean, but damn that video makes it look sexy. Pulls out all the romantic stops to the craft.

To my knowledge, they've never been a high-volume shop, though, so why all the advertising effort if they're not putting out any quantity has confused me. He's never answered that question on the Bladesmith Forum either.

More demand for higher prices and to create a buzz about his brand? Sames as all advertisement I'd guess.

Not what I meant, but I've suffered under excessive demand to the time I have to make stuff. Unless he can keep up, it's more of a bother than a blessing to have people always knocking on your door... at least that's the way I feel about it.

If that's his full-time job, maybe it's a different story. Regardless, he does good work, I'd love to own just about anything he makes.

Bingo! When I first started I dealt with customers one on one (all phone). I would average 7-8 hours on the phone
Over and over I would hear "must be nice"..no not really. Steady..now that would be nice!
Its what separates people that can be successfully self employed...and those that want to be self employed.
I went to his site, all of his stuff is under priced IMO. I would have ordered a knife but he has suspended ordering at this time
I imagine that he is first inline wondering why he did that video

I like this old Browning folder I bought in the mid 70's. It could use a good polishing, but the tarnished look is kind of nostalgic.

So he will get hundreds of more orders even though it takes six months or so to fill the order.
