Got a knife but don't know much about it

It's a heavy sucker and really well balanced. The blade is 5.75" and 10" overall. The main blade is wicked sharp but has a few knicks in it. The top blade is pretty dull.

The maker is Anton Wingen and says Othello Solingen Germany on the other side of the blade. Anybody have any info on this knife?

And it's too bad somebody sharpened it with a bench grinder.

Othello rings a bell. If I remember, they were kinda like AG russell.
They made all sorts of copies of other production and custom knives.

Decent quality. Clean it up and enjoy.

Oh, that would be real Sambar Stag scales.

I've seen too many great knives ruined by someone who thought they knew how to sharpen and used a bench grinder.....

I'm not too sure about the grinding. The whole blade has heavy grain to the steel, not just the edge. But I don't know anything about sharpening these things. The grip is kind of cool, smoother on the palm side and rough antler for your fingertips -so long as you're right handed

looks to me like it's a carbon steel blade that's been pitted by years of storage in its sheath.
I really doubt it would have left the factory without a smooth finish.

I bet that knife is at least 35 years old.

Yep it sits in it's sheath. I guess I'll have to find something else for it. I'll have to see about cleaning it up someday. I like the thing, it feels like you could take down a moose with one swipe.

I've got a 14" chefs knife with Gustov emil Ern and solingen Germany on it, that fucker holds an amazing edge. I found it in the Ex's knife drawer, she got it from her father who was a professional chef, and she didn't like it cause it 'looked rusty'

Cold Steel Recon Scout... I really like this knife. It is very thick and the handle is a little longer. I like the notch for your index finger for finer work.

SOG Elite Seal Pup.. fun little guy.
