Buell

2000 Buell X1 Lightning bought with only 2,500 miles on the ODO. Rode it for 1500 miles... 3 major break downs at every 500 forced a quick sale and replaced it with an 2004 HONDA VFR. It took a good year to get my confidence back in general motorcycle reliability. Ever since my old Buell I doubt all early production motorcycles, Asian and European too.

My worst wasn't really that bad. 1982 Yamaha Seca 750. Did everything "okay" - accelerate, handle, brake, etc. Just never really inspired any passion, unlike every other bike I've had, starting with a little POS Suzuki GT 380 back in '78 (used to foul plugs like nobody's business, but I carried spares and got good at cleaning plugs. Still liked it better than the Seca).

a 1980 Honda CB 650. What a POS!
left me stranded many times, or I would come out of a store and the entire contents of the gas tank would be on the ground under it.
I would have pushed it off a cliff, but it would have probably pulled me off with it.
I was so happy to get $250.oo for it when I got rid of it.

I loved that bike, but it was a rusting, pinging lemon.

It felt like a pre-production mock-up--everything was there, but just tacked together. It seemed like there was always something minor going wrong with it, or wearing prematurely, which made it a love-hate relationship. When it was humming along, it was nirvana. When it was cranky, it drove me nuts.

Still, I cried like a baby when I traded it, but after some trouble-free years on other bikes after that, it made me realize what a shop whore it was.

I miss it. Sometimes. ARGH.

I think I've had somewhere north of 25 bikes so far, maybe more. While most were pretty neat and state of the art for their day, a few were plain old beaters that would at first glance seem like a good bike to hate, but yet I look back on some of those fondly. I remember my old CB450SC Nighthawk--it was pre-bent by an untold number of previous owners who "had to lay it down" and the abuse didn't end when I got it-- it took the worst beating I've ever seen (a lot of "hey y'all watch this") because I took it off-roading on top of the daily commuting. It never quit. If there is ever a thread for "the bike you didn't think much of when you had it, but sure outlived its expected lifespan", that bike would be in it.

2006 Harley Electra-Glide Classic.I got suckered into the HD mystique. It felt really heavy, didn't have much power, and was probably the most uncomfortable bike I've owned. I'm 5'9" and I felt really stretched out, it hurt my back from between my shoulder blades to my tail bone. I know I could have spent some more loot to modify it for my size, but why? My 1978 Honda Goldwing was more comfortable. For what it cost I was totally disappointed. Sold it 4 months after I bought it.

I had a 2004 FXSTS (Springer Softail) for a while. NOT a good bike.
Granted, I put ape-hangers on it and a bunch of other mods but it was just uncomfortable and never lived up to my expectations.
My 2002 V-Star 650 Classic was so much better in so many ways.
I'll never own a HD again....but I'm not saying they're "BAD" bikes....just not for me.

I think it would be a three way tie of an 82 YZ125j, 86RM125g, and a 92RM250. 02 CRf 450 is a real close 2nd to all of those terrible bikes.

What I didn't like about it?
For what I paid for it, I found the specs to be very poor. So the value for money is terrible, you basically pay for the BMW badge.
Handling was shit. A very boring bike to live with, there's absolutely nothing exciting about that bike.

I was cosmically disappointed in my 2001 Dakar

nice road bike, handled well for what it is

good on gravel but when it goes down there are is a lot of shit that can go catastrophically wrong

the thing that sticks out in my mind in the radiator being mounted in such a way that a hard fall on the left side will pop the plastic tabs and break a hole on the neck of the radiator

no pressure, no cooling, no way out

busted a brake line once on a low speed drop and still don't know how

just not a durable bike if you take on anything but graded roads unless you make some serious mods

maintenance was a complete paint in the ass, plastic to take off to get to damn near anything

you're gonna want a set of torx bits to carry with you on the bike if the factory tool kit is not with the bike

always had a buffeting issue and tried a few windshields

mpg was great on that bike, even if you flogged it

you can wring the motors neck and it will juts keep going

ergos worked well for me

I wanted my Dakar waaaayyy bad, but after a year or two of ownership I hated it

never been so disappointed in a bike before

I would take a KLR over an F650 any day and take the extra money and go take a long trip

all this being said I would punch a nun for a F800GS

Worst bike I ever owned was a Buell X1 Millenium. I really tried to like it, but got tired of buying parts and fixing it.

Your timing was probably not set right, I owned a bunch of them and with the timing set properly it was a first kick starter and ran like a felon with an outstanding warrant.

I've generally got that attitude. I guess it's why I hated to let my GS go, even though it drove me nuts from time to time.

Never had a bike I hated outright, though.

On the contrary, I've had a few Craptastic! bikes that were fun.
