I am headed up to Lynchburg now and think I will probably have computer access. I could use a little more direction on where the wayside is on hwy 60.

The wayside that I think manganos is talking about is where the Appalachian Trail crosses Rt. 60. It is 17.2 miles west of the intersection of Rt. 60 and Rt. 29 at Amherst. Google Map shows the name of the road that intersects Rt.60 at the wayside as Swapping Camp Rd. Since I don't have a GPS, that's about as precise as I can be.

Is this the wayside you're thinking about, manganos?

A map called Virginia Atlas & Gazetteer (available at many Sheetz or other convenience stores) might be helpful to you if you don't have a GPS.

It's about half way between Sprouses Corner and Buckingham Court House on the left heading west on Rte 60. About a mile before Rte 60 chokes back down to 2 lanes before going into the Court House.

Oh Oh! The R.E.Lee wayside is way different from the one I thought manganos was talking about! R.E.Lee wayside would mean riding pavement for over an hour before getting to the dual sport stuff in the GW National Forest. I've always trailered up to the wayside west of Amherst (or somewhere else) closer to the trails. That probably sounds wimpy to the hard core adventurers, but my bike is really designed for and much safer on dirt/off road trips.

Unless I hear differently, my plan will still be to use the wayside on 60 west of Amherst since as soon as you unload the bikes there, you're on dirt. Hope it works out to see/meet some of the other ADV folks.

How many Robert E. Lee Waysides are there? Do I have the right one?
What's the nearest 600 or 700 cross road or road name?

Do you mean "Long Mountain Wayside"? That's just about 2 miles East of Oronco and is where the Appalachian Trail crosses Rte 60. DeLorme Topo shows Rte 686 and Fr 38 intersecting there. It's on the left side of Rte 60 about half way up the climb to the BRP.

I'm watching the weather. Don't mind cold but not with wet. If it's about the same as today, I'll be there. I'll ride most of the Pedlar District roads if they are not wet and sloppy. Otherwise I'll stick to pavement.
