2014 Shenandoah 500 -Oct 4th-5th -Mt Solon VA

The 20th Anniversary of the Shenandoah 500 is getting closer! Registration will open up on Aug 13 and end on Sept 19th or when the event is full. We will have 2 separate routes this year. The traditional dual sport route and a new ADV style route. Both routes will intersect at the traditional lunch stops and end at the campground. Check back here on the 13th for info on how to register.

The goal of the Washington Area Trail Riders (WATR) is to promote the sport of off-road motorcycle riding while serving the communities we ride through via our charitable gifts and support. WATR helps fund youth programs, food banks, fire departments and EMS units in the Shenandoah Valley that you will be riding in this weekend. In addition, WATR directly supports forest service operations financially and with manpower to help maintain trails.

PLEASE NOTE: This event is PRE-REGISTRATION ONLY! First come, first served. No entries accepted after Friday, September 9, 2014 or when rider limit has been met, whichever comes first. NO MAILED IN PRE-REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED!! NO POST-ENTRIES!! This event will continue, rain or shine - no refunds will be granted.

Very excited. I finally got a tagged dual sport.

1. What is the difference in the routes...

and

2. Any organized inmate meetups? Don't want to camp and ride solo.

1.Dual sport route is gravel, fire roads and asphalt with A &B options.

ADV route is gravel and asphalt with some B options. ADV route is for the bigger bikes that don't want or need to be doing rocky up and down hills or for the newer dual sporter who is just getting into offroad riding.

2.There will be 400 or so people meeting and riding in one place :) How's that for a meet-up.

Find the big ugly guy on a hacked KLR, bring him pie, you will have a friend all weekend.

In - again. Time to call the campground. Let's hope the federal government can manage to be in operation this year.

As always hats off to WATR for making it happen this year and for making lemonade out of lemons last year.

Thanks Tom, we try and improve things as we go. The new ADV route should be a good addition to the event. See you there!

We need a poll on what it will be this year:

Weather:
Oh shit I can't feel my hands all day freezing rain
Oh shit this is deep warm with fooding rain
Oh shit its cold with snow in the mountains
Oh shit I can't see anything hot with miserable dust
Gorgeous cool Fall weather ride

Personal problems:
five front flats I need more CO2
rock of doom friend over the cliff
dropped valve through the piston
friend with bent dogbone link
250 mile WTF happened to the route Saturday?
Monster endo WTF happened over that jump?
Looped three times WTF happened on that hill?
Three broken shifters where'd that rock come from?

At least it is rarely boring.

2011 and 2013 my group finally managed to not be "that guy". Looking to make it three. At least we have never needed Marshall help. Well, except that rock of doom broken collarbone medevac thing.
