My wife needed some time to write a paper saturday so I took my son to the Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Addison, TX.
Not much to show for it because I was busy keeping an eye on him. Here's a newly aquired Tuskeegee Airmen P51B. ![]() This is him throwing a fit outside the B24 on loan from the Commemorative (Confederate) Airforce. This is the first airplane he's ever been in and we went all through the inside of it and I gave him some change to put in their donation bomb. Eventually he just wanted to sit down inside and not go anywhere. I think he thought that if we waited they'd go take off. This is after I dragged him out. ![]() After he cooled off we went over to look at this Huey that I snapped this pick of since my weight & balances instructor used to be a rescue diver in the NAVY. ![]() And finally, they were giving rides in their old stearman and I convinced him to wait for them to take off. Once the old radial kicked to life in a cloud of smoke he was grinning from ear to ear and as they accelerated off to the taxiway (we were right behind them) he started laughing and going crazy. ![]() Swung through the gift shop and grabbed a mini cast model of the stearman and an F-20 and he was singing the whole way home.

VietNam Memories
Recently I touched bases with an old skydiving buddy who happens to be a war correspondent.
He has written an incredible book about the O-1 BirdDog pilots who were forward observers and fire coordinators in Nam. You can find it here on his website, best buy is on Amazon.com but you can find it several places. If you were ever in Nam and know about these guys you won't be able to put it down once you start reading it.... 100 Feet Over Hell... http://www.jimhooper.co.uk/ These are the aircraft, I'd love to have one these days....

We got to start the Beech 18 at school tonight.
![]() ![]() Here's a recording of me starting it with my instructor giving me some pointers. I was the first to start it so she needed a little coaxing. Download me - Beech We ran it through the normal starting procedures. Let it idle at 1000rpms to warm up. Then run up to 1500 for mag check and prop exercise and finally bring it back down and shut it off by leaning it out. And here is another one with me standing outside while someone else started it. me - Beech 2

If it turns out it's been fixed then we'll start both and run 'em up at the same time next week when we get back.

1 video, 2 cool things.
First, it's a radial. That's cool just on principle. Second, look at how distorted the prop looks in the video. Perhaps you've seen still shots where the prop looks bent? Now you can see it in video form as well.

A freind of my bothers dad passed away and this was found in a storage unit he'd had for decades.
Its a 1970 Pitt's single seater bi-plane. The wings are all wood except for the leading edge, in the box and had'nt seen light for 39 years. They were perfect. The pictures I took were'nt worth posting. Too dark, you couldn't see anything. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Brothers friend say's he remembers his dad buying it and moving to his storage unit. This plane was assembled by Mr. Pitts himself. It was quit a find. The plane was sold to a buyer from Texas the night these pictures were taken.

This was my favorite acro plane. A Cub with clipped T-Craft wings, an O-320, and full inverted systems. It was a hoot to fly. Loved inverted spins in it. Snagged a few 2nd place trophies in IAC competition.
