Today we had supposedly the only twin seater spitfire in the world come and stop by Cairns.
it was a bit dissapointing actually. it came in, flew at about 50' the length of the runway (10,000) , did a circuit and then landed. It was dissapointing becuase it wasn't noisy or growling or anything special. Here are the pics ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hay Ewe

Oshkosh AirVenture 2012 is underway, if you haven't seen these guys do their night routine they will be performing Saturday night.
P.S. After many years of strictly dirt and hawg riding, rumor has it Henley just got a KLR.

Edit: I saw a website dedicated to these and there were 7 on the registry in the world. A pretty rare airplane. Sorry, can't find link.

I didn't know there were big hills/small mountains like that around Cairns.

Lucky bastard! Kirby lives down the road from me, good guy with a gorgeous wife who also happens to be a pretty good pilot herself.

There is also a really twisted rd that runs up to Kuranda, spent a week of my honeymoon at Holloways beach. Someday I will make it back.

Enjoyed some good weather ( at long last ) over here in the UK over the last week....... took the opportunity to take the Luscombe down to the West Country.... Cornwall is a fantastic part of the UK.
Close to the UK mainland's most Southerly point....... The Lizard ![]() St Michaels Mount in Penzance Bay ![]() Approaching Lands End. ![]() Orthographic Cloud forming on the Coastal Cliffs near Boscastle ![]() A typical scene ......the UK public all on holiday...... ![]() Hartland Quay ![]() Air temperatures were up to 28 deg C ( thats 82 in the old money !) and we had to keep a eye on the oil temp in our Conti C90.....Aircraft was mostly up at AUW complete with our camping gear....... kept the flight legs fairly short except the journey down west on tuesday which was 2hrs 35 mins |

Ok, this turns out to have been made locally, a guy at a local sheet metal company brought plans from the UK and has been working on it for the last 7 years, and cost him AUD$1 million. He is hoping to start production of them. As I said in my original post, it didnt growl like I expected and was bit of a let down, but if its new and has a modern engine, well, thats to be expected. Here is a link about it on the website of the organisation that are building it http://www.englisheng.com.au/news.html as for teh land around Cairns, yes there are some big hills here. and it can get bloody cold even though we are in the tropics. I was camping last weekend for a mountain bike race and woke up with ice on my kit that was left outs side. and that was sleeping next to the fire. The the twisty road you talk about is the Kuranda Range. Its the main road up and out of town. there are three other road ways, one is longer and has more turns - more fun, the other is shorter but is of the main routes. There are two other ways up that are open to cyclists and walkers. Its a bloody good time of year right now, clear skies, about 25oC, low humidty - and this is winter - Liz when you coming to visit?
