We had a fly-in and air race last weekend out at Wickenburg airport.

Jason Rovey. He and I are on the airport commission.

This Lancair Super Legacy was friggin' fast. Coming down from 13,000 feet, he almost hit 400 MPH.

Ah.

Are they really that expensive?

I figured with all the surplus parts that europe has the only huge cost for them would be fuel.

I knew an experienced pilot who died with his fiancee in a Lancair IV, and another guy who owned one that was also crashed. I'm not an knowledgeable aviation guy, but I'm curious about the reputation that the Lancair has as a difficult/dangerous aircraft. Any thoughts?

I think that's an older photo, not from this year's Duxford.

Collins Foundation in the US have one that can be hired for airshows, and for a measly $12500 you can go up in it yourself.

Personally, no. I'm not knowledgeable on the subject, but this is an interesting read:

The US has been pulling F-4s out of storage and refurbing them for use as target drones.

Yes it's a 30 year old image from RAF Alconbury Airshow,, sorry for the confusion, my photostream includes hundreds of images from the last 30 / 40 years of my aviation photography, feel free to check them all out!
