Haaa...the SOUND...never heard a Spitfire but I was on foot on the taxiway at the Hamilton airport near the end of the runway when the museum's Hurricane flew it's first sortie following the rebuild - only there by chance on a week day, a non advertised test flight -
Wow...I still get shivers from that moment years ago. I was immediatly brought back to an earlier era and figured i was born way too late.

Sweet, thank you.

"...only suffered compression fractures to his spine..."

I'm surprised he could stand up.

My grandma gave me this awesome quilt that she made by hand. I was at my grandparents house on Christmas eve and she asked me if I still liked airplanes. I said I did, so she took me to the guest bedroom where she stores the quilts she has made, and she had this one for me. I am always impressed with her work and so happy to get this from her.

Very nice, a couple of great touches, the prop spinning and the tail overlaping the frame as in a fly by.
She would fit in great with the ladies in our "Flying Farmer Association"

She is very talented. When my dad was young and just starting off he drove semi trucks. When he bought his own truck she made him a blanket and stitched his truck on it, and with great detail. He carried it in the sleeper and used it regularly. Years later he got into flying and bought a Grumman Yankee. She made a large oil painting of him in his plane over the Grand Canyon, or mountains. I can't remember which one, but it was awesome. When I got my eagle scout she sent me a large oil painting of two eagles soaring. She puts so much work, detail, and most importantly love in all she does.

She has a room in her house that she uses for quilting. When her grandkids get married, they get a quilt. In her spare time she made quilts that were donated to an organization and used for humanitarian relief. For some reason they no longer accept quilts, so she has a huge stack that she was going to give to goodwill. One of her sons in law nearly had a heart attack when she told him her plan. He said that her grandkids would love to have the quilts by grandma, so she has been giving them to her grandkids as they come to the house to visit. However, this one was set aside especially for me.

The last flying Lancaster bomber in the UK flew low over my house one day, the sound of the four Merlin engines was incredible.
