Mine would be the Tiger Cat or the Bronco. Perhaps an A10. Or the Super Connie.

Probably a Supercub with optional skis and floats.

It would be a fun plane with limited use because the gross weight doesn't go up so you end up with less useful load. The conversion money is better spent on a C172 or similar with more utility.

That's true...

I can remember a retired AF pilot who had a converted 150 as described, based in Lubbock, TX.

It looked like a fun, personalized aircraft. It was dark green, with wheel pants.

Of course, that was 25 years ago...

Flight instructor friend said the 150 tail dragger geometry was scary. Maybe better off getting a Cessna 140 even though it doesn't have the power of the 150 hp conversion engine. Other vote for the "dream" yet practical plane, I second the 180/185 and offer up the 206. Lightly loaded very good performance and loaded (it can carry a lot) it has decent performance. Carry your mountain bikes, and/or camping gear/cabin supplies, or maybe a small dirt bike from the city to the semi improved strips in the mountains, and, if you want to/need to, fly IFR too.

Not sure if this is the place to put it but here is a video of a friends memorial service. He was killed in an ultralight crash & always wanted a ride in Strega, a P-51 Mustang used in the Reno Air Races. Well he got his wish. Here is the video. Start up is at 1:48, take off at 6:10, first pass over his son & grandson is at 7:40, first high speed pass at 8:35 and second is at 9:15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie9Wz7rNifk

Some of the first C150's had the C140 gear box. If one wanted to, they could convert to standard gear fairly easily. BTW a straight tail 150 with the 150hp conversion is basically a single place airplane (unless the 2 occupants combined weight is 200lbs or so)......
I have flown a 150-150 and it goes up pretty good. My Tcraft with 90HP goes up like a rocket......
