1,200 HP in an airframe that could be described as sleek is going to produce some very impressive numbers.
Have there been public or pulished estimates of what they expect from it?

There's no way that thing is balanced.

Turbine engine up front, Sparky. Weighs a lot less than a recip. Kevin Eldredge knows what he's doing, especially when it comes to these NXT's, and John Parker has years of experience in high-performance homebuilts. That's a good team to have on this project.

I'm going to guess that this thing will approach the 500 MPH mark. Jon Sharp's Nemesis NXT racer turned the pylons at Reno at over 400 MPH in September using a Lycoming TIO-540 engine that is believed to make about 500 HP. Could be more, as Sharp is a savvy competitor who won't easily give out information like that. 1,200HP (!) is going to be something to behold. I'm hoping that the owner has it finished in time for this year's Ari Races. It's not eligible to compete, but seeing it turn a few exhibition laps would be mighty sweet!

Something *twice* as sexy.

Pond Racer.

Two 1000 hp Electromotive-Nissan VG-30 3-liter GTP engines, which ran on methanol.

Created by Burt Rutan for Bob Pond and destroyed at Reno in '93 in a forced landing that also killed pilot Rick Brickert.

Info from a Wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scaled_...tes_Pond_Racer

I remember seeing that in a mag a long time ago.

Shame she went down though.

I also used to drive a car with one of those engines.

Just wish it ran on methanol.
