Watching the Flying Legends video I had a thought and correct me if I'm wrong. If the US Armed forces can sponsor racing teams in NASCAR and NHRA, and keep demonstrations teams like the Blue Angles going, why can't they preserve history by keeping their own equipment flying? I mean thank gawd for the uber wealthy and the foundations that keep this stuff flying, but wouldn't it be a shit hot if the original owners put aside some hardware and did the maintenance, or do they?

Thanks Klay! I've never seen their tanker. How appropriate that the Blue Angels tanker is fitted with JATO bottles.

I believe that now it must be referred to in the past tense, as they exhausted their supply of JATO bottles last airshow season. Those bottles date from the Vietnam era, and they simply ran out.
They did one of their last assisted takeoffs at the Reno Air Races last year.

Here are some shots from the PRS at Reno today. For some reason a bunch of the images I took didn't come out, so I'm stuck with these.
I shot some short video clips, and I'll post a couple of those as soon as I figure out how.

Most of the Unlimited racers had gone home by this morning, and the only two remaining were a Corsair and TF-51 Mustang that belong to Texas oil man Rod Lewis.

The Thunder Mustang Super Sport class racer belongs to George Giboney. It's powered by a Falconer V-12, and sounds just like a baby Merlin.

Just found out today that I missed an airshow in Denton yesterday. Saw the smoke trails and just figured someone was out playing.
