That is a wild one! The tail maybe are flight surfaces? And the right elevator provided the lift? The tail surfaces operate independently on the F-15. |

The body of the f 15 gives it the lift also and the tail is part of the roll mechanism that is why when he was at high enough speeds he got enough force to resist the left wings lift and keep the plain straight. The only reason he survived was the fact that he was literally over the airfield and just needed to turn the plane and start the landing. if he was further away he would have ejected.

I thought someone might like to see the insides of a radial engine. This is a 220hp Continental W670. We build these and the Jacobs engine for resale and to use on our own production Stearmans.

How robust are those bottom end assemblies?
Typically, if a radial engine fails, how likely is it to be the bottom end that goes? Thanks for the pics. They're great. Very imformative. |

Can I come over and help assemble one? I am really good at handing out tools and specialize in swearing.
You have a cool job (or hobby)

Just fast-taxied my buddies Cessna 195 after a year's rebuild. Finishing off the weekend tomorrow by heading up to the Reno Air races! Fun times!
ps. I'll post pics tomorrow night if it's not too late or Monday from Reno.

Some shots from Reno yesterday. Great day, wind was a big strong though. They couldn't run the Gold Unlimited, which was a real bummer. But at least no one was injured after the mini-mustang had a mayday and landed long. Pilot walked away, and the aircraft wasn't too damaged.

I haven't been to Reno since 1993 or so. Rare Bear and Strega battled it for the Gold. It was a matter of who could hold the nitrous button the longest. Strega beat him if I recall.
There isn't much better sound than a race Rolls Merlin zooming by you at 480 mph.
