Hmmmm a reliable, lightweight, trail bike that can be plated. For 10K I think I would rather buy the entire early seventies line up of Yamaha Enduros. They made them in about every size in 100cc increments. They don't have the suspension of the Freeride or some of the other options that the average rider doesn't need but hey 10K could buy a ton of upgrades. Why do these companies and much of the public think they have to reinvent the wheel? Motorcycle companies have been making these kind of bikes for over 50 years and some of them were even offered in orange! They may not be as shiny and flashy as a cool new KTM but you can work on the old Enduros with a rock and stick on the side of the trail if they ever did break which is highly unlikely.
Now somebody pull this vintage soapbox out from under me and slap it back underneath Woodsrats feet!

But the Randonne is only$5500,and you might be able to register one(But don't hold your breath on doing that in OrwellianUSA nowadays) FX bike looked like it kinda sucked, selling point is "well, when you get stuck just pick it up" or "If it gets scary, just push" Randonne would likely go almost anywhere a real trials bike will go.

After looking at the KTM Freeride 350, gas gas TX Randonnč 125, http://www.projectm85.com/prototype.html ultralight freeride motorcycle, the FX bikes, and thinking about rebuilding a trail 90 class of bike to play in the woods with, I like the 125lb, 125cc, 125mpg design target!
I had a Kawasaki BN125 street bike, with hopes of 100mpg, 55mph camp touring, but the bike never reached 100mpg, and did not maintain 55mph into wind or hills. So I settled on 250 class, and have been pretty happy except when I've dropped the bikes in tough spots.I think the FX bikes (I guess the generic description is Ultralight Freeride Motorcycle) could open a new market and typical motorcycle manufacturers will want to get in on it too. Anyway I am on the wait list for FX bikes!

I think you will see the Free Ride in the US. Word is that one is being readied for emissions testing in the US... Plus, their is a US version of the owners manual out there.
I agree that $10,000 is a lot to drop on a small lightweight bike like that... But, a very quiet and stealthy little bike like that could be quite fun...

Randonne looks pretty capable.
Granted,Takumi is a fantastic trials rider, and this Randonne is likely 163cc and other mods(nice headpipe I see) but the starter is still in place so it's definitely heavier than a standard trial bike, but certainly would make an adequate trial/trail/girlfriend bike.

My uncle owned a Reflex for a while and it was a turd. It was cool to look at and all but once you got on the death trap of a seat and felt the underwhelming power you were ready to go back home.

2 Wheel Wonder Rider

I managed to get out for a ride today around here. Wandered over to the store to do a product update on the rodent controllers (had to feed the shop cats)... I tossed a few more Kold Kutters in the sneakers while I was there too. Snow in the open/untouched fields is almost 2 feet deep. Fun stuff!!

Tim,
Speaking of slow bikes, have you ever ridden a Rokon? Edited: Adding the following photo purely for the sake of those that may not have heard of the Rokon Trailbreaker.

Turn the volume OFF for this one:

Yea, That's a good point.
That's some scenery, right there. The regulars here manage pretty well with what we have to work with!
