Honda XL 250

My first bike was this Honda XL 250 K1 from 1974. It was a real cool bike with 20 HP and runs 120 km/h. At that time there was no speedcontrol and no speedlimits. A real good time.


I buyed the bike in 1977, the same year are the pics.

Picked up a 1976 xl250 back in June for $100 no title bill of sale only. It had been sitting for 15 years or more, got everything cleaned up (carb, points, plug, brake, chain and clutch adjustments, cleaned up the wiring, etc) and got it running again. she smokes, compression is a bit low (70), but, it runs and I used it all summer riding around with my boy on his xr100 which we also got a good deal on (traded a guitar for it and put new rings in it and a new tire on it).

All in all I can't complain, two dirt bikes with less than $200 out of pocket. They provided a ton of fun this summer, but now I am in a quandary.....do I tear it down, put in new rings, and ride it or do I throw it up for sale and let someone else restore it to original glory? If I keep it, I will strip it down to a pure dirt bike, run ignition wiring only, and just ride it til it dies. The only real issue I have had with it is the smoking and the fuel petcock leaks (new one should be here next week). though the engine is pretty noisy (most likely the rings) it seems solid and all but the turn signals are there.

I will never be able to get a title for it in Nevada, so no sense in restoring the lights, etc.

What are your thoughts? What would you do? would anyone be interested in this bike if I threw it up for sale for say $150 bucks (give or take this is what I have in this one)
