...so I'm passing through near Knoxville after picking up Eggo and I stop in a mom and pop restaurant with great food and as I was drooling over the Black Walnut Cake,
I get asked, "You're not from 'round hea, are ya"?
A table of about six apparently retired guys and a couple of their gals, the same group we see in just about every small town diner and restaurant every damn time we walk in.
We talked a bit, he asked if I knew what a Black Walnut was. Certain I didn't want to say no and yet not sure how one differers from the brown ones, I replied "I heard of Black Walnuts but they taste the same as the brown ones.
I was curious why they all thought that was funny. I laugh too like I meant it to entertain.
Then the same guy asks directly..."Where'd you say you were from"?
Looking to maintain a friendly stance I didn't snap back "I didn't say"
Instead " I'm from North America just like you" came out.
He grined suspiciously like I got an upper hand in trying to not be specific.
He says, "I'm from SOUTH* America"
Trying to hold back the laugh and instead of being my natural wise guy self I didn't embarrass him by saying shit like " I've been to South America and you don't look anything like them" or "I have friends who think anyone north of I-10 is a Yankee"
Instead I kept it cool with "Oh, South America, Tennessee"?
.
.
.
"Yep"
To bad it didn't occur to me to get a Cosmo shot with that group.

Folks in Chicago say anywhere south if I-80 is "Down State."

Black Walnuts do taste different than brown ones, Danny, and they're a lot harder to shuck too. Worse than Pecans. Worth the effort, tho.

Good on ya for picking up the new egg, I need to get my name on that one.

Great Grab Digiamo
I know the feeling, having travelled throughout the south. My father lives in Alabama, and I have taken more than a few rides down there. I walk into a Ma & Pa greasy spoon full of locals , looking like a space version of Abraham Lincoln in my Aerostich suit, and it is as if the world stopped.
I have to say that even though they stop and stare, I have never run into anyone that has treated me differently or acted rude to me. Southern folk are some of the nicest people you could ever meet.
Beware of the stereotypes the media is always reinforcing. It seems ridiculous that this is a topic of conversation, because so much of this great country of ours has become so homogenized anyway.

I have no doubts your name will grace Cosmo soon.

I enjoy the ribbing folks give me about being from NYC and I its all in good fun to give it back in a friendly all-in-good-fun way.
Everyone walks away smiling.

Can't think of a better topic of discussion while waiting for Cosmo's Carrier to figure out where to make the drop. :)

Cosmo attended a Square Dance tonight...hint hint...

Missed it, was it a clever troll or just a nasty link?

He was already banned before I got on line.

It was a fake Java updater site. It auto-opened and looked like a normal update request. My mother would have fallen for it.

It's a busy festive time of year and Cosmo and his entourage are all in.

I'll scout a drop zone today between all the festivities.
Merry Christmas and Festivous fir the rest of us to all.

Due to so many upcoming holiday events, I took the opportunity I had today to make the drop.
The city is indicated in a couple of the Square Dance snaps and this spiritual center is very near and should be visited before or after the grab.

These next two are the direction which you can expect to find the stash.

Detailed pics and hints to follow.
You know the city right?
