Then the inlet tract will be straighter for both carbies.
That and moving the shock body to the left a bit would be the best idea but I have already repositioned the reservoir once already so I don't want to mess with it again well not just know at least.

I think I'll make a small air box using all the space available that then connects to the main filter box

I spent another few hours playing with the frame tonight and i managed to get the engine positioned pretty much in its final resting place.

I tacked the frame together just to check for front wheel clearance and see if I could remove the rocker cover and the engine.

The good news is there's 5mm of clearance between the frame and the tire when the forks are compressed and its very easy to remove the engine.
The right side of the gs frame unbolts so all you have to do is jack the engine up with a trolley jack, remove the right side frame and then you can just roll the engine out of frame.

The bad news is the only way to get the valve cover off is to pull the engine mount bolts out and let the engine drop enough to get clearance above the rocker cover.

here are a few pics

enough clearance for you lukas

I admire your persistance, many would have put it in the bin already but just when you seem beat, you pull another rabbit out of the hat, its great.

Here is what you made me do yesterday (working on the update now):

Thanks mate

One of the reasons I haven't binned it is because of all the kinds words of encouragement I get from people on this thread.

I'm gonna need as much encouragement as i can get because i have entered my first ever race which i have to be at (15 hours riding away) by the 2nd of April for scrutineering. http://www.condo750.com.au/index.html

I have already been excepted to race so i have to finish the bike in time.

not long to go.

Wow!! looks like DRJoe has infected others with the desire to graft forigen donks into the DR frame.

What are you putting in it Lukas, is that a 690 engine ?

Ah it was Lukas that inspired me. He is putting a kwaka fuel injected er6 motor in a ktm 640adv frame.
His is going to be way more powerful and a better handling bike than mine but when one of his injectors cacks it in the middle of butfucknowhere he'll be wishing he had the gs donk.

Unfortunately it isn't. I was using my friends real pride & joy, a $500 FEIN tools grinder. Somehow the disc got stuck while cutting and the thing proceeded to lock up the gearbox and crack in two piece while in my hand. Let's just say he is not exactly thrilled with me, and my wallet hopes that they will replace it under warranty.

Luckily I have a chop saw that made quick work of the rest:

I can see them.
Un lucky with the grinder you should stick with makita.

I've killed a fair few grinders in the past but i have never had a gear box split in two oh apart from when one i was using got crushed by a ten ton pontoon (dam clumsy crane drivers)

Just read the thread from scratch after Lukas posted a link from his thread. Very cool project Joe. GS twin motor in a DR is cool enough without all the other mods to the what was DR frame!

Watching with interest!

P.S. Nordie when you going to do it (GS500) in your spare frame

Wouldn't mind a twin but mine'll be a DR400F.

With the Corbin/IMS etc that'll be the long distance/adventure bike and the 650 will end up with the skinnier seat/tank and more off-roady.

I could just put the Nordie's 558cc donk in the spare frame

DR600G.
